Capped price service is only for the 15k, 30k, 45k and 60k services, or 4 years.

Start saving now - capped price stops after 60k service or 48 months.

Beyond that it's more if there are any recalls or hotfixes you haven't been told about or reflashes/updates for the ECU. They can also do an SQL with their MUT3 machine that a non dealer won't have access to.

Contrary to popular belief, SQL can be done without a MUT. At least on a challenger. I know as I have done it personally.

My ML's due for its 90k in the next 2 weeks. It's been privately serviced since 30k worth getting serviced at the stealers for any ecu updates etc. Or am I better off getting the service done at my own mechanic then going the stealers just for the ECU etc stuff? Has anyone else done this?

I remember reading only recently that a member went to there local dealer for an ecu update and was charged only $55 or so. I don't see it as being a major problem myself ;)

Hi guys, I called round today & was told
that for my 90k service,
$1500 (about) Cardiff Mitsubishi (no timing belt, do it at 100k)
$1770 Newcastle (included timing belt)

Now do I need to have services don't at a dealer or can any qualified mechanic
do it & stamp the book. What can Mitsubishi mechanics do
(Other than Warranty issues) that a non Mitsu Mech can do?

Cheers guys

yeh mate valves done. No timing belt. They did that with the 105 service

It would be interesting to know what the other makes charge. I'm guessing with the way the world is they're not much different to the cost at Mitsubishi so I'll stick with my Triton

Different manufacturers have different service schedules.......not how many kms but what is done at each service. Mazda may have there major at 105kms or something like that.
To get a proper comparison you would need to get prices on all services up to say 150k kms add them all up and compare ;)
I doubt there would be a massive difference between Mitsubishi and other makes.

Mercedes has capped their servicing costs to encourage first type buyers: $1400 covers all routine servicing for the first 50,000km.

Sorry not really on topic, just topical.

Thanks guys, I've been quotes about $600 for
the 90k service from my mechanic (without
valves).

Har051 I think that's a good idea, I'll call them &
get a price on valves only, that would still work out cheaper.
It has to go in to Mitsu to have a couple of
things sorted out under warranty & while its in there
ill get them to do any upgrades to ECU & whatever the SQL is.

Saw my dealer, $1080 for 90,000 service, timing belt is $520 at 100,000 km, However the 150,000km service not only has tappets, but also replacing injector piping. So while Mitsubishi caps servicing charges to 60,000 there is a sting in the services each 30,000.
But I got hardened to this, our diesel golf services certainly cost more.

If you can do your own servicing it has many benefits.

1. You are assured that particular tasks are done, eg. I've had two definite instances where a fuel filter has not been replaced at a dealer service - usually only picked up when you do your own at the next pitstop.

2. Cost is hugely less.

3. You can use better quality components.

4. You can make sure dirt doesn't get into the engine when doing jobs.

5. You don't get oil/grease over the carpets and seats.

etc, etc,

If you feel the need you can get a mechanic to check over your work at some stage or get a dealer to stick the anal probe on your ride to check ECU alarms, software, etc.

You forgot to mention the fact your warranty would become void also  without relevant information filled out in the service manual.

Your points are valid but only after warranty runs out would I bother starting my own servicing

Sounds like a lot of folk have had to rely on warranty simply because the stealers have had their greasy mits under the hood in the first place.

If you are competent to do your own work there shouldn't be any probs. If you're not mechanically inclined, find a good mechanic.

The 90k service involves all fluids, oils and filters as well as a tappet adjustment.

I'm not sure if all dealers bump up prices on oils and fluids as dramatically as I was able to find out but it is a good 90% + which would answer why major services cost so much  . These tritons would hold a fair amount of oils/fluids combined.

Watch those bastards mate they did purchase warranty and services on my truck.
They gave me the runaround re upper manifold replacement...
And feeble excuses for the rest of my complaints...ie charging for work that wasn't preformed....I liquid papered my diff plug...caught them out..
And they threw out my Uni filter and denied I even had had one...
Can you believe it...
I go to Wyong Mitsubishi now they bend over backwards and I now get trade discount on my servicing costs about 20% off gota like that...
