Read above $2900 is too much. It looks like they are double dipping on the labour. If the manifolds are already off for valve clearances you don't need to pay again to remove them for cleaning.

I agree. $2900 sounds far too much. Local mechanic I've used for over a decade quoted me $1100.
The dealer themselves quoted me $1500.
Can anyone advice whether it would be worth sticking with Mitsu whilst I'm still under warranty? Or does it not matter whether I go to a 3rd party mechanic?

Doesnt matter as long as the service book is filled out and all recommended valve adjustments are done.
I even use genuine filters to make sure.
Once warranty runs out that will change.
Dealers are overpriced and underskilled if you ask me, speaking from experience

They gave me a full list of all the things they would do for the price. Valve clearances was listed as audible check only.
Seems like my mechanic could do that too. Owns his own Triton.

The only thing is that they did mention that if the engine failed after warranty due to the infamous overheating issue, Mitsubishi Australia Head Office might be more likely to replace it under 'good will' if they saw that most of my services were with a Mitsu dealer.

So you recommend going with the cheaper option?

I would recommend anyone looking to do their 90K service to call multiple dealers (if they are in an area that has a couple within driving range). I've been quoted anywhere from $1300 - $1600.
Could save you a heap of money.

I recommend going with a better option if you can find one.

As for the goodwill crap.
Vehicle has a known issue and not fit for purpose if it fails.
Its not goodwill, its there statuary requirement by law to remedy it.

Had an independent mechanic quote me $1,500 when presented with the list of what is included in the dealer's 90,000km service, and dealers ranged from $1,200 to $1,595. Went with the $1,200 from a Mitsubishi dealer

I'm a newbie to this site and only just got my Triton 2013 MN GLX.
I got mine from a whole fleet company about 1-month ago and I rung a 4WD mechanic to look at it to make sure everything is in order before i go away.

Just been told by the 4WD mechanic that the service book looks like it was all stamped on the same day. Highly unlikely that the full proper 90,000km service was carried out at all and the same for 35,000km. My Triton has 93,000km on and i believe it's still under warranty till Nov 2018 but hoping once he works on it he doesn't find any other surprises. But he mentioned it may be close to $1600 .

Recently had my 90k done by an independent mechanic (one i trust)

$1800 for the service, but they also fixed up a few other things. I thought it was a bit high at the time, but after reading this seems fine to me.

Yeah agree (price wise), I’m taking mine to this mechanic because he knows his stuff and will do a good job.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he finds some other things that may need to be replaced to get it up to where it needs to be.

Mine just came in at a smidge under $1300. Not including diff oils as I didn’t want them touching my lockers.

G'day All.
My 2012 MN GLX only has 57,000 Klms on it.
Last November the Dealer did the 75,000 book service.
This November they want to do the 90,000Klm service for $1400.

They say because it will be 6 years old, they go by age rather than Klms.

It is out of Warranty.
Am I being Butt Raped by them for a service that is 30,000 further down the track?
I only do around 10,000 Klms per year.
Am I better off finding a local wrench slinger to do the job?
The Triton is running sweet.
Thanks.
Regards, Trevor.

At that rate of piling up the kms, I'd simply just do he oil/filter changes every 12months and timing belt when actually due.

Don't know why they don't round out the drivetrain to 50k intervals and align that with the timing belt service, the fluids can easily do the extra 5k.

This would cut the extra visit.

Re the Stealer's rates; your probably getting charged retail rates for the fluids and timing belt components along with A-grade mechanic's rate to supervise the apprenti.

So I join the list of pi$$ed off owners that have been skewered through the ribs and wallet.
My 30 thou service was called in even though I had done only 20 thou (time of course) $450 and they MAY have changed the oil lol. They did tell me that the tyre treads were 10mm too..wow!
Of course they then wanted another $80 something for an air filter and another $70 something for a pollen filter so I told them to stick it for now.

After the $450 rip off I wasnt happy so its over to you blokes to advise whats the go with air filters for an MQ 2017 4 cyl turb diesel? I have heard conflicting reports as to quality etc..do I go to Mitsi spare parts or is there an as good from the usual stores?
Navigating supercheap for the CORRECT part is a nightmare from here.

My stealer called up the other day asking why I have stopped servicing with them. I said I am using someone else. Then they promised to beat quotes blah blah blah.

Don't know why there are Stealers out there? Supposedly there's no money in the auto trade.

Just don't know how they find their multi-million dollar showrooms and still have change to give the apprentices some crumbs.

Quoted $1,798 today by Tynan Mitsi in Sutherland Shire for the 90k service on my 2014 MN diesel 4WD, delivered May 2015.

When I asked what I got for that price, the reply: " check lights, wiper/washers, horn & electrical system, parkbrake operation, brake & clutch pedal travel, engine idle speed, aircon operation, check for outstanding recall or service campaigns, small injection quantity learning using MUT III tool, check all electronic control system diagnosis output using manufacturer specified special tools, road test and report any defects. Almost a 5 hour service". Quote.

I had specified no need to rotate tyres or check brakes as I take care of these separately on a km schedule.

No mention of replace timing belt, or check valve clearances.

FMD. I suppose I should be grateful that they would commit "almost 5 hours" of an apprentice's valuable time on my vehicle. Any mechanic who took 5 hours to carry out that work would be working from his iron lung, surely.
Good-bye Tynan.

90k on a 2014 MN isnt valve clearances. On that MY they were done at 30,75,105,135,165 etc.

But somebody there forgot to change the service times. You would still be doing Diff oils and trans oil at that interval though. But that wouldnt be 5 hrs LOL

Bad work Tynan :-(

thanks for that Dibby.
sounds like the quoted "almost 5 hours work" is even further into BS territory than I first thought.

can you tell me where I find what out work is scheduled to be done at each service interval?
The information in the service book is pitifully basic, designed no doubt for numpties like moi.

Nearly $360/hr for 5hrs to do stuff all...

I would pass on that, too!
