Ha Ha, yeah, should have put that in the post, well spotted seeing my signature. Thanks for taking time to reply. Just wanted to get a feel, moved house so trying out a new mechanic, want to make sure they're good.

Hi guys,
New to the forum and tritons,
I just bought a 2010 GLX-R and its a bit overdue for the 90k service. Reading this it sounds like the price can vary a lot. I have been told that 90k is a good time to do the timing belts, is this true? If so how much can i expect to pay for the full kit?

Thanks.

A full 90k service with new belts, valves clearances etc. I have seen prices from $1200 to $1900. When a big price difference make sure the quotes are for the same work being done.

Just wondering in relation to valves being adjusted on 90k service. Is this a time or km requirement, as I'm due for my 6th year/90k km service but only just ticked over 40k kms.

Good afternoon all.

90k is over due a bit but finally saved up for it.

I've got a couple of questions.

I want to do my fluids and filter at my trusted mechanic and just let the dealer to do the rest like tappet adjustment and what not and also see if there's any updates.

Does that sound silly?

And also do they need to remove the bull bar for any part of the service. Not a fan of people touching that because I have heaps of cables from lights, light bars, aerial, winch and everything else and don't like prole playing around with it

Cheers

no mate it doesn't sound silly, and near they don't have to remove the bullbar for any of that, I'm the same as you and only take it to mits if I have to, and I do all regular servicing myself, my experience with the dealers is they don't give a ship about your car at all, very very annoying !

Cheers for that.

Booked in with my mechanic for all fluids and filters. Brakes. All belts and pulleys and to find out why my car makes cracking noises when turning.
Probably a bearing or a cv.. have no idea but my car is one sick car haha

Unwell by the sound of the cvs.

For the guy earlier with the 2010 your belts are overdue for change by time even if you haven't hit the kms yet. Mine is also 2010 and when we changed the belts they were very loose. Not good.

I went with a dayco kit for belts, pulleys, seals and water pump from western filters. I highly recommend it, we found it a very good kit with everything you need.

5 yrs or 100,000 for the timing belt and balance shaft belts - it's in the book, but noted separately and not part of a routine service.

If you are going to get them done, good preventative maintenance to do he pulleys and water pump whilst it's all apart and only adds about an hour to the job. You will be dropping the coolant, so flush the radiatorand replace the 2 radiator hoses.

Just did mine last week

Cost of kit including the hoses was $490

Coolant $48

4 hours of labour and hose clamps, harmonic balancer bolt, etc and $496.80

All up a little over $1000, not cheap but good insurance for the next 5 yrs

Hmm I thought with Timing belt it was done by kms and not time. As in before 100k kms and all good. I'm at 6 years now but only 43000kms on the clock

edit: Just found it in the book. Had car serviced at local dealer for the 5 year mark and they never mentioned replacing the timing belt. Just spent 700 on new brakes and all new fluids. Looks like it will be waiting til next year.

Naff, Most of the rest of the guys refuse the Tradies triton now, Homer really doesnt like it.

Daryn, Sometimes the Trans oil change can make a massive difference, The state of some of the auto oil that comes out of them can be pretty bad, For those of us that use it to 4wd the oil can degrade a little quicker. The one downfall most of the time with it though is the auto holds over 8 litres, when you drain it from the plug you only remove about half of it, So you mix new and old together, Personally on my car i Flush the Auto completely to remove as much oil as possible, this can make a massive difference to the longevity as well.
What else do they do other than the service? unless your fuel filter was getting a bit blocked i cant see why she stopped blowing smoke.

it's time for the 90k service and I am looking for somewhere good in sydney to take it to.

My local mitsi dealer quoted almost $1600.

I rang a small independent place and they said book it in for a regular service ($300ish) and they would have a look and listen and just do what needed to be done, that seems a little too relaxed to me.

any thoughts?

I took mine to an ARB to get most of the 45km service which i believe is a simlar service... however it had to go back as they didnt put the transmission sump back on properly and leaked everywhere.

Mine is due 90000 soon.

They have quoted me 1500 for everything... which i will get them to do it... expensive but another thing that i can say well mitsi did it if something goes wrong... plus i have found a really good mits service centre, that i trust

Dealers don't make any money on selling cars!

Think of the workers that are going to lose their jobs if you don't top up the coffers. :(

I've been quoted around $2900 for my 90k service from my local mechanic, this includes ultrasonic manifold cleaning at an exterior company. This is a lot, but its handy to get it all done in one place.

labour - 13 hours (service 7hrs, tappets and manifold 6 hrs) $1350
oils, filters and other things - $300
timing belt kit including tensioner and water pump - $900
gaskets - $280
manifold cleaning - $150

those are rough prices

is this reasonable?

any recommendations for brisbane southside/logan mechanics?

thanks
