Fuel Filter change

Postby brownegaz on Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:51 pm

I had a slight problem on the weekend driving back from a trip down south, the engine was running a bit erratically at 2200RPM which is around 110kph, as soon as I slowed down it settled down so seemed to be a fuel supply issue, I changed the fuel filter myself today and sure enough when I cut the old filter in half it was pretty well blocked, the annoying thing was the price of the genuine Mitsubishi fuel filter was $80.

Has anyone been able to get a non genuine one anywhere, I tried Repco but they dont have them.

I didn't realise that a water level sensor and warning light was built into the bottom of the filter element.

I ended up making a jig for removing the filter element which made it easy to remove the filter once I had it all out of the engine bay.

22000km, yes first change, I will be doing it at 10000 k from now on

Just before this happened I topped up while a tanker was filling up the servos tanks which is something I normally wouldnt do.

I might have a look around for one of those Mr Filter funnel things that are mentioned on another thread
Has anyone seen them around Perth ?
