I reckon you would have had some massive pucker factor there. Imagine that weekend for the Young boys - one with a blown CV, one with a rolled car.

At least you had fun though!!

Yes it took 10min to pull the seat covers out my ass it was puckered that tight
As we were the only vehicle on that side of the property it was a little anxious. As you know there arnt too many trees around.

It hindsight I could have thrown the drag chain around one of the big rocks then hooked the winch up to stop the front sliding down the hill. The problem was the loose shale that kept breaking away under the wheels causing the vehicle to slide.

Hey Motoz, In a situation like you'd when no tree is around is always good to have an anchor or maybe what I always carry when go off road because is very easy to storage in the tray (a sharpened old rear axel end)Click to view larger pictureClick to view larger picture

Can't do that with rope. :(
This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.

Good point and thanks for the idea. ;)

There were some sizeable granite rocks around. I could have thrown the drag chain around one and hooked on. I used the "ol mate on the high side side step trick" to try and counter balance as we backed it around straight.

I couldn't use any foot brake as we were moving backwards as the slightest touch locked the fronts and they slid down the fall line. It involved full lock and using the hand brake to control speed as I swung the front back around.

@ Snowman I had a local canvas guy make some sleeves up they Velcro over the rope like a damper. There 2m long so you can use them as abrasion sleeves on rocks and dirt.

They roll up to about the size of a toilet roll.

Also you can buy a nylon abrasion sleeve thing which is what I've done. Never got around to actually sticking them on though...

pull the core out and use that as a protective cover.....

I bought a three meter length of that stuff. The problem was one end of the line has the stainless eye thingy spliced into it. On the Runva winch the other end goes inside the drum. I would had to have removed the front bar to enable me to get the rope off the winch to slide the sleeve on.

Put that one into the too hard pile of bits and pieces piled up in the corner of the shed...

Motoz you could cut and re splice
instructions are on utube...the Brummel knot is the best
But you do need tools I have some where I don't know...
There are yacht riggers that will do it for you also.

No not done yet. Not sure if they would have helped as I've never owned a vehicle with them.
Thanks VS that is an option. Spliced a few ski ropes in my time though not overly confident splicing a rope to handle 11000 odd lbs. Silly really as it's the same principal.

Just a suggestion but you can get leather/Nylon welding cable protectors that come in a roll and it uses Velcro to fasten it. Most decent welding supply shops should stock it or type in " Welding Cable Cover " into feebay and you will get plenty of hits ;)

Back to the build.

There's bit a new direction taken with this build. I've undergone another round of mods including suspension, lockers and new treads.

GEBUSSS !
That DMS set up looks like the bomb diggity!
They would have to be the bench mark in regards to triton suspension for sure!. Is that a hard and soft dampener adjustment on the rear shocks too ?
Never seen that before.
Enjoy buddy ;)
