Thank you, mates, for the comments :). I still haven't come up with the final rear bumper design but will soon do.

Recognised the work though. No job offer as a painter but that steelwork is amazing. Well done GU9126. 8-)

Thanks! I also get to see comments posted on other sites that linked to my video and see comments about the non-use of breathing device, overspray, etc. Most are correct in pointing out flaws so the negative comments that make sense actually help me improve my work.

Edit: Just watched the video. Hope that winch plate and chassis mounts are more than 3mm. Very happy to see you found the safety gear.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Fabulous workmanship there.

Is the bar 'Airbag Compliant' whatever that entails?

That is an amazing job you did there on that front bumper. How are those Rancho shocks working out? Are those Rancho 9000 XL. I have been planing to replace my shocks with a pair of those but have been unable to find a pair which would fit at the front. Do you know the model number of the shocks and struts that you use?

Yes sir, these are Rancho 9000XL shocks. One of the front shocks leaked when my rig landed hard after driving fast on a highway with some road imperfections.

I replaced the two front shocks with the stiffer Amada Extreme shocks that came from Thailand. I originally had these shocks installed but were too stiff so I changed them to Rancho shocks. With the aditional weight of the steel bumper the Amada shocks seemed less stiff now.

Got this code from the shop where I purchased the Rancho shocks:

Front Rancho shock item code is 998017XL.
On the rear the shop installed the longer Rancho shocks for the new Hilux. Rear has a 2" lift.

Recently changed the Mickey Thompson MTZ tires to the newly released Nitto Trail Grappler tires. Humming sound while in motion was gone after the tire change.

Modifying my Strada / Triton

Postby GU9126 on Fri Apr 30, 2010 12:16 am

@ Marshwa, Remcio, Metoo : Thanks for the comments :).

I got the chance to test the strength of the steel bumper and the Tabor winch during our club's recent fun run. One of us got stuck while crossing a sandy river. I tried using the rear tow bar to pull but the stuck rig wouldn't budge. Finally used the winch and it was a succesful recovery :).
