Yes campaign was done. As mentioned previously before this the motor sat on 88 degrees all day everyday. Post campaign it went up to 95 degrees operating temp. Coincidental or not I never had any issues until this work was done.

I'm not sure how it works but you could monitor the temp via OBD2 in real time so there must be a signal getting to the ECU. What I asked the dealers and could never get an answer too was at what temp was this code and go to limp mode set at?

In my experience it must have been above 130 degrees at least.

there is talk in the pajero forums of this and it is a lot lower i will see if i can find it for you
mmm mine sits at 93 before the campain then sat at 97 so i said bugger thata and i put in a new thermostat now she sits 88 all day and i put the original rad cap back on as well...

Hey Dave,
Good outcome mate with the new donk, just out of interest, when she boiled coolant what was the engine temp gauge indicating?
Mine sits around half way with temps on the ultragauge reading between 88 and 94, cruising along at 100 with no load i'm seeing 91.
Only a matter of time though I fear :lol:

I should also mention that I didn't have an ultragauge before the heating campaign so no idea what she was reading then, l am assuming though a bit cooler from all the anecdotal evidence.

hey how exactly does a different thermostat make it run cooler? once it's open its open yeah? I mean it's good that it does I just don't see how ? BTW which one did you put in?

The whole motor issue threw a spanner in the works.

well it dont get as hot to start with as it opens earlier as it isnt a 92 degc i think it is a 86degc and the new coolant must be working better after i got the air lock out the mitsty idiots left in it
it is a dayco thermostat from repco part number is in the shed if you want it?

New motor is running sweet. Zero problems thus far.

Headed west for a 4 day weekend. Bit of an ordinary weekend camp / fishing spot...

I've switched sides and moved over to Toyota. The Triton is on the marked to make way for the Cruiser.

If anyone's in the market for an MN with a brand new motor, reduction gears, locker etc etc etc...

Hey mate it's a 5spd auto super select. The transmission has a Nomad valve body upgrade and the transfer case is fitted the the ultra rare 3.15:1 (golden cog) reduction gears.

I found an unmolested one owner 2004 100 series cruiser. Not a mark on it with impeccable service history.

As a family we wanted more seats and more room. I did a trip recently with a mate. 2000km round trip from Adelaide to Pt Lincoln with 3 days touring through Lincoln and Coffin bay Nat parks.

Both my Triton and his 02 GLX 4.2TD (2"lift, chipped on 33's with close to 250k kms on the clock) had one passenger each. Both rigs had 2 swags on the roof.

The 700kms drive over sitting on 100kmph the Triton used 10lt less fuel than the Cruiser. During 3 days of offroad low range sand, beach driving and high range inland tracks, at refill the Triton had used 10lt more fuel for that section.

On the return trip we sat on 110 and fuel burn was the same.
From that trip I was sold and started actively looking. A big comfy and proven touring platform.

Nice pick up mate, that is a good reliable platform with plenty of options.

Your triton is a good rig I am just doing the diff swap on mine now to help with the ratios but nothing would fix the issue for touring like a bigger capacity engine.

Are you going to leave it as a wagon or chop it?

No this will be the grandpa touring rig.

I'll mod my drifta draw set and transfer that over. Other than that it will just be the stock std 100 series makeover.

2.5" lift, side, rear and underbody protection rolling on 33" all terrains. Long range tank, lighting and coms.

I've got a few long distance destinations and trips bucket listed through central oz up to NW W.A.

No mate 265's so 32's.

Different weights, different transmissions, different gear ratios, etc, etc... I know it's not a true scientific comparison yet at the end of the day a big heavy 15 yo truck used the same amount of dinosaur juice an my rig on a 2000km road trip gave me hope I wasn't taking a massive backwards step in perusing the 100 series as a replacement option.

It's very early days and only time will tell. Maybe it's my mid life crisis manifesting in auto form. I just wanted to move away from commonrail technology and grab a reliable proven platform for some distance touring. I'll be honest in saying that none of the current crop of vehicles with their high output small displacement engines really do it for me these days. Sure their more refined, have car like handling and jam packed with tech driver assists but the majority are totally uninspiring to say the least.

Don't get me wrong we did briefly consider the 200 series but buy in for the comparative VX spec was in the mid $60k mark relative to kms traveled before you look at any mods to the platform. Small payload without a GMV upgrade, hefty, the issue of the lazy torque converter that doesn't want to lockup under 100km/h, poor sealing airboxes and susceptible alternators to water damage really turned me away.

FWIW I don't think we'll have any less fun and adventure driving the previous model. If anything I'm really going to enjoy just having a tastefully modded clean example of a classic touring icon.

WOW. So much has happened. In fact I didnt recognise the car. Last time it had steel pipe bar work all over the rear! Then you cooked it, fitted a canopy, (man you are getting old) talking family wagons etc etc :roll:

Well I sold my MN years ago and have since had family tourers :roll: in a 150 Prado and now an Isuzu MUX to tow our van. Yep. With bunks :lol:
