Mount up...

I got stuck into the canopy today. The SJS canopy I bought already had the roof rails fitted. I searched on Gumtree and came across a set of Rhino Aero bars at 1200mm long for $50.

I ditched the clamp on legs and bought a set of HD feet to integrate with the track. Chuck in a few T bolts and a couple of end caps and there was another $150.

The bars needed a bit of internal trimming to bring the mounts 25mm in.

The rear spoiler was busted on the canopy so I used the mounting holes to fit two more 18w flood lights. I'll wire these up to my zombie light switch. This will give 270 degree illumination...

The internal lining had a few tears. I want to maximise the internal space so decided this had to go. I also removed the underlip tub liner.

This will reclaim a bit of space and let me run the air, water and power lines before the draw
Install.

Insert the nutsert...

The next stage of the evolution from moving form a soft cover to a canopy involved getting rid of the black plastic 'knobs' for the bungee loops.

There are some plastic buttons that for some reason people reference that they use on Fords. These are about $1.40ea then you need to colour match them unless you want black.

I wanted an excuse to get a nutsert tool. So this was as good as any...

I unscrew'd all Philips head self tappers and drilled and de-burred 6mm holes.

Add a bit of paint...

Fit the rivnut. I used M4 for these then used a domed head Allen key fastener in Stainless.

Job done !!!

Canoe clips are what we use. Paint them to match. Fast, easy, look good and cheap at about 30c each.

Look like this:

Nutserts are pretty cool things though. So handy. Now you have one in there you can use it to pull that ugly dent above the fuel flap.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Hehehe I had a feeling you would pick up on that !!!

Yes that was a battle scar from the Googs Tk. A dried tree branch found its way under the shock cord and ripped two of the knobs off.

Hi Motoz

How is the led dimmer holding up? Has it lasted the test of time or fallen to pieces?

Awesome, cheers guys.
I've just ordered one. I put in 10 metres of LEDs last weekend.
I like your idea of putting some LEDs inside the roof top tent so ill do that next.
Oh and I ordered some blue LEDs to go under my universal flares too for when I'm pumping tyres up at night... Well actually it's more just cause I think it'll look cool lol 8-)

I agree. There also a great profesional company to deal with.
TBH I don't get home from work till the 30th so I havent actually seen them in the flesh yet. The 'hugs and kisses' said she was really impressed with the quality of the finish. She commented that they were build like sturdy furnature, maybe a little too nice to be hidden in the back of a ute.

I'll post up my thoughts and throw up some pics when I get them installed.

Functional storage...

I trial fit the draws today. I bought a Drifta car back combo, with a pull out table, side wing kit, storage locker and MSA drop down fridge slide.

This is the full unit. The RHS side is a full length draw 1400 D x 550W x 300H. It's got a couple movable dividers...

On top of that draw sits the table. This can be either a pull out bench or free standing...

The LHS houses the pull out kitchen. This is about 950D x 380W x 300H. It has it's own pull out draw, cutlery tray and top that flips over to make about 1600mm bench space...

And the table...

I also got a blank draw so if we don't want the kitchen, ie traveling with the CT we can chuck the draw blank in and have a standard two draw setup with the pull out table...

All up it was $2400 for the draws, kitchen, table, wing kit MSA drop slide GST and delivery.

Now to get the water tank in, secure the cabinet and bolt down the drop slide.

And value wise that's actually not bad. I reckon I paid over $2k for my drawers and I didn't get a kitchen or a drop slide - and the slides are pricey too. Do the drawers run on sliders instead of runners? I read that they still come in and out okay but always wondered how they go with a bit of weight on board.

It's made from 12mm marine ply, biscuit joined lacquered finish. The draws run on Teflon runners. The draw has Teflon strips that sit on Teflon in the main carcass.

The main advantage is the gain in internal space as you don't have to come inboard by using the runners. There is a significant weight saving as well as there's no steel.

Just wipe with a cloth then spray with silicon spray and it's super smooth. Two 10mm strips of Teflon running on Teflon will last a lifetime.

Time will tell though bang for buck they offer the features I was after.

very nice mate. we have the drifter kitchen in our CT. another good thing for the teflon strips is ski wax. my old boy gave it to me when we bought ours i laughed at him as the wax it self is older than me but works perfectly fine and it dosn't melt in the heat.

So I've got everything installed the day before we head to Tassie. I fitted a 40lt Boab Polly water tank against the headboard. I fitted a constant pressure Sureflow inline pump. It's self priming and pressurises to 35psi.
Add 3m of retractable braided hose and we've got water on demand...

I wired up a 6 outlet switch panel to control lights, pump, 2 x 12v outlets and on board air. The SJS canopy has quite a large sweep of the rear window. As such it took a little messing around to get the drop slide running smooth.

All up I'm very happy with how it all came together. I'm sure there will be a little tweaking over the next few weeks though that's all part of the fun.

Thanks Glen. Made our way to Melbourne eventually. I had to call the RAA last night after I shorted out a couple wires and blew 7 fuses. I was sure I'd blown the ECU as it just wouldn't start...

It's the first long run since fitting the canopy. With the draws, RTT, roof tray etc and fully loaded we got some of the best figures to date !!!

I thought it was going to get up to the 15lt/100km mark with all the additions. Maybe last nights power surge did it some good !!!
