We came in from the S/E this time heading straight to Dargo. From Adelaide it was 11.5 hours with two stops along the way.

The place was crazy busy. I'd say about 500 people in and around the pub so we had one beer and left. We camped just out of town by the river with nobody around.

Saturday:
Junction Spur TK
Billy Goats Bluff TK (down)
Cynthia Range TK
Hern Spur TK
Camped here in a great spot.

Sunday:
Hern Spur TK
Wombat Range TK
Wonnangatta TK
Wonnangatta Station Ruins
Zika Spur TK
King Billy TK
Camped here in one of the helli pads on the side of the TK

Monday:
King Billy TK
Bluff Hutt TK
16 Mile Jeep TK
Mt Buller
Camped opposite Saw Mill before the 9.5hr drive home on the Tuesday.

Track conditions were great. At a guess most had been graded at the end of winter as there was minimal rutting and water damage. Conditions were dry, rivers low so as a result at times dust was an issue.

Night time cloud cover kept the heat in so the nights were warm. The fog burnt off in the mornings around 10am so we had great views all trip.

:D

Ha, yeah that's my brothers rig. Mine has more power and torque yet his has more lift and travel. I guess they evened out.

Yep brand spanker with 2000kms on the clock. Twin turbo torque monster. It performed really well all week. Great bus though the inside styling is terrible IMO.

Next time you're out that way mate should get down to Barkley river jeep track and Mount Sunday…
I would have to say they are one of the greater high country tracks …

We did them in a few solid axle rigs last time i was there as my triton is too stock to tackle them.

To be honest I'm not 100% sure. I think it's leaf.

Well the bog holes at the base of Buller claimed all three rigs. I did recover both of them after I dragged myself through... lol

Yeah there is always so much more to see. A dedicated trip into Licola Woods Point is definitely on the cards.

I've been reconfiguring the cooking equipment we take of late. I think post last trip we've got it sorted.

motoz good rig really like it just curious how does your rig keep up with others since I noticed you had a hilux and some other rig just wondering if you could give us your opinion on the performance compared to other rigs in your trip photos ? thanks

Thanks.

I it's very difficult to compare all three. Here are some stats though that we observed over the weekend.

All vehicles were running on 33's with mine on 16" rims, the Nissan on 17" and the Hilux on 18".

The Nissan is bog stock apart from 2" lift, bullbar, snorkel, canopy and the larger AT tyres. It comes factory with a rear diff lock.

The Hilux is stock apart from 4" lift, snorkel, wheels and rear diff lock. Both are manual transmissions and had RTT's.

Mine is modded to the max and auto.

On the open road the Nissan chewed 15lt/100 absolutely woeful. The Hilux was in the high 12's and mine turned out to be 13.2lt/100kms. That's fully loaded with aggressive MT's sitting on 110km/h @ 2100RPM.

On the trails the auto was king. I would leave it in D and pull away on the climbs. We noticed the 33's really affect the Hilux and its low ratio. Although the same size wheels the twin turbo Nissan was more user friendly in the steeps where the Hilux was having gear selection issues. Either too high or low.

On the tracks mine used the least amount of fuel over the 4 days. As mentioned a couple posts above all three got through everything with ease till the last day when we came across some flogged out section of track.

Being 1000kms from home I took the sensible option and winched through. Then pulled the Nissan before recovering the Hilux. That's the damage 35" tyres and torque monster trucks do to tracks. But that's another rant... lol

In summary all trucks have their strengths and weaknesses. You can always mod them to suit your wants though.

well from all that, I was most surprised that the triton was the most efficient on fuel " on the tracks " , must be a little disappointing that the nav drinks so much ! my old mk v6 used to drink a minimum of 15 lph !! and quite a bit more when worked hard " but it was tough as nails " though
good feedback motoz ;-)

Yeah it's a funny one.
I put it down to that as I've got the 3.15:1 reduction gears in the transfer case I could sit on 1800 - 2200 RPM most of the time.

Also both the other rigs had 60 + kg roof top tents and 40lt of diesel each. I've got a long range tank so didn't need any extra fuel.
Gear wise we all had similar stuff in regards to fridges, water and provisions.

At the end of the day it's all guesswork anyways as to how and why... lol
