My fix involved removing the OBD2 plug and hardwiring the S Drive unit to a 12v power feed. This seemed to solve the problem.

Cheers Mate! I'll give that a go. From memory there are only 2 wires that go to the OBD port?

No mate. I haven't gone the front mount yet. Still got a few more tweaks to go before that goes in.

I must say your rig with the inter cooler and EcuTek pulls like a freight train.

If I could get this one running like yours I'd be a very happy camper.

Further, faster for longer...

Since fitting the chip I've been loving the increase in power and torque. I've kept pretty low in the tunes folder and have found a good balance between power and economy.

The EGT's have climbed a little so freeing up the exhaust was an avenue I wanted to pursue. I looked into getting a 2 3/4" system custom made though the cost was going to be around $1500. The Scott's Rods 3" system GB came up so for the price it was a good buy.

The package came in the post neatly wrapped with a couple stickers and a hat...

There's a fair bit of difference in the dump pipe area and the cat...

The rest of the system...

Installation was pretty straight forward. Out with the old, on with the new... Or so I thought. Things were going smoothly when disaster struck !!!

While removing the factory dump pipe I managed to snap one of the studs on the back of the snail...

After a couple handfuls of coins donated to the swear jar and some reassuring advise from the Missus I decided to phone a friend and get some helpful advise.

Suffice to say a bit of miracle in a can, along with a stud remover, 4 tins of ale and a prayer we found ourselves with a great result...

With the exhaust now installed I turned to the rear shock bushes. Mine were totally flogged out. The guys at Ultimate posted me down a new set for the rear shocks and the front struts. All free of charge.

Great to see a company standing by their products. Their customer service really is second to none !!!

After a service and tune the Triton was running like a dream. I went back to work and the Missus took the car over to the west coast for a couple weeks camping. It ran great and came back with no damage... Everyone wins...

I was searching eBay for bargains and while looking for jousting sticks came across these rippers...

It was so cheesy I had to grab one. The jewel in the crown was this though...

Having been searching for the right long range tank for a while I jumped at this. When I went to pick it up I noticed a small dent and a couple scratches that wernt listed in the add. Some heated haggling and $50 was knocked off the price and the sender unit and filler etc included. :D

The install went very well. I ran the std tank virtually out of fuel, emptied out the LR tank and rinsed it with fresh diesel. Unbolted the std Swapped the hoses over bolted up the new and all done.

It fitted perfectly with the 3" system and WASP sliders. All mounting holes and brackets lined up perfectly and the handbrake cable reinstated without a drama.

It sits flush with the chassis rails so on the whole for $390 I couldn't be happier.

If we can get 1000kms range between drinks it will suit my needs.

To be continued...

Looks good Motoz, can I suggest getting an extension for the pipe which will throw/direct the gases/black smoke downwards instead of straight out the rear, mine eventually dirtied underneath and all around the ARB rear bar.

Good idea mate. The Scott's system came with a 3" 90 degree bend. I will look into fitting it with a 45 degree turn down.

looking good. glad the tank fits with the exhaust system.

I'm trying to get the tail pipes changed so they have a turn down for the tip. Its just finding the time to bring the triton into the workshop.

Thanks mate. It's either 125 or 130lt. Ill find out when I go fill it up tomorrow. I took the opportunity to clean the fuel delivery system. I took the inlet and return lines off the fuel pump and ran a can of diesel purge through.

I forgot to take pics as I got caught in the moment. To sum it up you pour 500ml of purge into a clean container. You take the inlet hose off the fuel pump. A length of hose goes onto the pump and into the purge liquid with an inline plastic filter along the hose.

The return line from the fuel rail goes into the container also. Start the engine and let it run. Vary the revs. It gets warm. keep the liquid topped up so it doesnt run dry. The purge cleans deposits on the injector tips, pump and lines.

It seems to idle a lot smoother and has lost the 'knock' it had before. On tune3 I was getting a small puff of black smoke on acceleration. Post flush this has gone.

Will see how it runs tomorrow once I fill the tank and go for a cruze.

FINALLY !!!
After much delay I got a knock at the door yesterday and signed for a new piece of kit.

I'd ordered one of the Runva 11XP winch's. After reviewing most of the specs of the import winches on paper and price point this unit was right up at the pointy end.

Included in the kit 11000lb winch with Dyneema Rope
600A Solenoid Pack with 32mm2 cables
3.6m Handheld Remote
Wireless Remote
Aluminium Hawse Fairlead
Clevis Style Safety Hook
Snatch Block
Winch Cover

Features:

Free spooling clutch
Winch power in and out via remote
Automatic braking action. (Screw Cone)
100% Waterproof competition grade Solenoids
High output series wound motor
Heavy duty robust construction
Full Steel 3 stage Runva patented planetary gearing

I really like the fact that the solenoid's are inside a steel housing. How it lasts time will tell though it looks

Here's the specs;

Rated Line Pull 11,000lb (4990kg)
Motor – Series Wound (12V) 4.9kW/6.5hp
Gear Reduction Ratio (12V) 230:1
Dyneema Winch Rope 11mm x 25M

I will endeavour to find the time to fit it over the next few weeks. It will be good to have the bar off as I've got a little bit of trail damage lurking behind that I need to repair.

Thanks Craig. Paid $635 delivered with the $50 NTN code discount through Wolf 4x4.

Seeing most of the import winches come out of a few factory's in China it's just a matter on getting the features you want at the price your prepared to pay.

The Runva brand seems to be quite popular in Canada. I've read a lot of favourable reviews and comments on ExPo.

I'm planning to check and load the thing with grease during the install. To be honest there's not much call for one here in SA though were looking at a trip from Adelaide through the Vic HC, over the top into NSW ending in Newcastle around June.

Hoping to do use the road less travelled as much as possible en route. Ill post something closer to the time and if anyone wants to meet up somewhere for some wheeling it should be fun.

True that mate. We'll try and squeeze through just before the long weekend. We're looking at taking two weeks so will see how it pans out.
;)

Here's a cool little mod I made the other day...

It's a rear seat organiser from MSA 4x4. For around $80 it's great for keeping all those little bits n pieces sorted. We've packed our head lamps, LED torch, all the 12v chargers / adapters inverter. Maps, sunblock, Rid, fly nets, and other BS that makes the great outdoors so much more enjoyable...

It also saves ripping everything out of the glovebox trying to find that item that's fallen right to the bottom

Yeah they're awesome, I have one each side. They also provide lots of fun if you get someone like Homer sitting in the back, gives them something to do with their time.

No mate. I've been working away for the last month so it hasn't been a option. I'm going to fit it this week along with a host of other mods and upgrades I've been stock piling.
