Cheers mate, will just go with some AT's I think. It's already as aerodynamic as a house brick no need to add chunky treads also... lol

The sun finally came out today so I grabbed a couple more shots.

This is the front box on the RHS. I'm going to house all the electrical components in here. The plan is to house a 120AH AGM in the box underneath then house the distribution board and chargers in the gullwing box.

This is the LHS box. This will be the kitchen / bar. I had the doors lined with stainless to make bench tops.
The fridge and stove are on slides.

Here's a shot of it hooked up to the car.

Motoz Expedition Trailer: Urban Escape Unit

Postby motoz on Mon Dec 16, 2013 2:29 pm

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm really happy with how it's coming together.

So I battled with this flu that I seem to have caught off the missus and did a bit more on the trailer today.

I fitted a foxwing style awning that I bought from Boycee at Red Dog Off Road to the tent base rack. This thing is pretty big and will offer a great deal of shade and shelter over the cooking area and at the back of the trailer.

I also made sure the fridge fit !!! Luckily there's 20mm to spare on the top lip of the door. When I took all the measurements I forgot to allow for the transit cover and all the door seals.
I knew it was going to be close though it worked out really well.

Motoz Expedition Trailer: Urban Escape Unit

Postby motoz on Tue May 26, 2015 4:10 pm

So we gave the old girl its madden voyage through the Flinders last week. Originally this trailer was going to be the base utilising the RTT. With the arrival of our daughter a more family friendly solution was needed.

We commissioned Challenge Campers here in Adelaide to build the tent. It ended up being on a queen size base with a 12' tent and zip on 7' awning.

It's currently rolling on 205/70 x 16 or about a 28" tire. I plan to use the H3 wheels and the current 32" Duratracs on the trailer. This should get it sitting level to the Triton.
While the tent was being made we added a new 66" axle and electric drum brakes.

We had the tent pack built to mount straight onto the previously fabricated storage module.

The awning side offers a great bit of cover. There are optional panels to zip in and enclose the space.

Hehehe... Yes it is brilliant. I've still got a ladder to negotiate but no windows to fall out of after giving the Ol camp fire spirit too much of a nudge.

Jane loves it though as she still has her elevated command post to bark orders from and check on the breakfast progress... lol

The tent builder incorporated zip up access panels into the internal storage pods on the side of the trailer. These are a HD backed canvas to help stop any elements getting in.

We had some storage pockets added up in the bed area. Good for phones / keys etc.

Did you take into account the extra tyre height when the tent was getting made :?:

Thanks mate. Yes, you can't really tell from the pics as I had it spread out and pegged down but there's about 75mm to play with. Considering there's no real fit out of the trailer as yet I'm confident it will all work once we add all the accessories and up the tire size.

Great little rig there Motoz, little mobile palace away from the castle.

Did you use a very heavy canvas?

Some specs of the tent:

~12ft Tent off Side of Trailer.
~“Wax Converters” Dynaproofed canvas (11 oz. Walls / 15 oz. Roof)
~Steel framework with bows held in position with reinforced pockets and retainers
~3 x Internal opening windows at bed level with ‘Tentex’ screens and 3 clear ~PVC weather overlays
~1 x External opening window cut to tent floor level with ‘Tentex’ screen (external flap can be used as awning)
~2 x Zippered canvas doors on opposite side walls of tent with zippered ‘Tentex’ screens
~Reinforced 4" High PVC welded floor
~Queen sized bed on extruded Aluminium bed base including new innerspring mattress
~Zippered Security Pocket for personal items
All poles, pegs & guy ropes supplied in separate bag
~Tent Area 2.2m x 3.7m plus area housing Queen sized Bed

Bed Base & Tent detachable from trailer if required.

We also added a "Tropical Reflective Roof" it's essentially a HD reflective bubble wrap that attaches with Velcro loops. This insulates both in winter and summer.

Motoz Expedition Trailer: Urban Escape Unit

Postby motoz on Wed May 27, 2015 3:32 pm

As we don't have an electrical system setup yet I grabbed one of the new portable tent light kits from forum sponsor 4WD Supplies. These are made by Doble Outdoors.

I purchased the full kit which consists of the 200t, 100p, 5w portable solar panel, table, 12v USB charger, daisy chain leads and other patch leads. We bought an extra 100p as well.

The kit has the 200t (telescopic) pole which can be used as a pole on the awning. They have three power settings. Light output on high, med and low with upto 250 lumens and 250hrs between charges.

The 100p (potable) is the same though a smaller unit. They both have the same IP54 rating and lithium ion batteries.

Each light has 2 outputs that can be used to recharge phones / tablets etc via the supplied USB patch leads.
All units recharge via the 5w panel that is either free standing or sits atop the tent pole at three different pitch levels.

They come with a handy little table that attaches to the pole.

All in all the function and form are fantastic. It made it very easy moving around the tent at night on the lowest settings as not to wake the little one.

The 100p is also handy to keep charged in the vehicle as an emergency light or portable power bank.
