Getting ready for Fraser Island trip

Postby Banjora on Sun May 26, 2013 4:16 pm

We are off to Fraser Island in July so decided it was time to do a few more mods. Have removed the rear seat and built a shelf to take the fridge and other stuff. Very happy with the result. Just need to fit some tie-down loops.

I also put a 12v socket in the back from the second battery in the tub to run the fridge.

New ARB rear bar and side protection bars being fitted in a couple of weeks.

Looks good. Is the shelf ply, mdf or something else?

Any mention of Fraser Island gets me excited, was there at Easter and might go there again in September.
Beaches and tracks we badly beaten up at Easter, would think they have improved a great deal since then.
Looking forward to your report and pics :)
Bruno.

We are heading to fraser on the 23rd of September for a week staying at central station with the camper trailers (two families).

Today at the Newcastle 4wd show I ordered the ironman deluxe bull bar, 9000lb monster winch, lightforce genisis lights, snorkel, long range fuel tank underbody protection and recovery kit.

Should be well and truly ready for a few trips before fraser.

Once the work is done I will feel justified in building my shed with the other things I have been working on
A little more beach and a lot more bush in my Triton

GrahamB,

The shelf is made from a piece of mdf.

Really looking forward to Fraser,

Hi all just reviving an old thread, but I'm planing a trip up to Fraser at the end of January and was just wondering if it's worth taking a winch? I don't have an electric winch fitted but have a hand winch and just wanted to know peoples opinions as to whether it's worth taking along or not?

I'll be taking the usual recovery gear snatch straps, shovel, maxtrax, just still wondering about the winch  :?

Cheers :D

won't need a winch there. Places where you are most likely to get bogged, there isn't really suitable trees to winch off. And if going off another vehicle a snatch is quicker.

Okay cheers guys :)
I just remember a friend telling me how he buried his spare tyre to winch off, but I can't remember where :?
Just thought it safer to check :)

That's a good technique to learn for those freak times when it's your only option. But you can get stuffed if you think I'm going to be digging in a tyre over grabbing the maxtrax

You'll have a blast over there mate. Try go right up the tip of the island. No tourists go up there (non of the tour busses etc). It's magical!
