Looks like good fun, I am surprised you are still running stock "bash" plates...? Have you thought about getting some steel ones?

He's not mate. If you go back to the first post in this thread and scroll down a bit there is a picture and some text saying he is running Baysie's plates.

How embarrassing... :P I'm just used to the obvious differences of the bushskins/brown davis/arb plates. Those ones are nice and discreet.

Only when painted black. Check out Geek's which are yellow, or mine which are a galvanized finish. They stick out a bit more.

Just a small update.....

I had ordered an 'ET mod', MAP sensor loom for my chip and a billet rail limiter from Tony and they turned up today :D

I fitted the MAP sensor loom and ET mod tonight which took all of about 20 minutes and will do the rail limiter on Friday. ;)

I hope so, I'm just trying to get it to drive a bit nicer when towing my camper

I have now fitted the rail limiter too and happy to report Surgeio is behaving MUCH better now. It tows a whole lot better and I went out 4wding today and it is a different car to drive. ;)

I have a small issue to fix but other than that I couldn't be happier. :D

You might have to re-name Surgeio if he is going to behave himself.

Maybe something simple like 'Simon'?

Simon the Hy...... no that wouldn't work.

I fitted a torque converter lock-up switch from Wholesale Automatics today. It was a fairly easy job, but finding places to mount things is the biggest challenge.

After looking for a while, I decided to mount the unit on the same bracket as the auto ECU.
I welded a piece of angle on to mount the resistor to.

Once it was all mounted then came the wiring, it is very straight forward accept the instructions said the wire colour to cut at the ECU was yellow with a red trace but mine was yellow with blue. :?

I ordered it with the factory style switch instead of the carling switch. The switch lights up red with the ignition on and the top lights up green when activated.

All I need to do now is hook the camper up and test it out properly ;)

I also bought a couple of Air on Board switches to replace the blue ARB compressor and locker switches, the blue just didn't look right

Suits the Triton a little more :D

(Sorry about the crappy pic)

Lastly, a couple of weeks ago, I fitted an A/C condenser fan. I was very happy to see it also runs if the engine temp gets up around the 90°c mark. No pics of this one though.

Nice. You'd have to be tempted to replace that other little black switch now. That's about where I stuck the second cigarette lighter hole on mine. I've added a pic as requested in that other switch thread but it looks like you were ahead of me by a couple of hours.

I hope the auto ecu was roughly where I said it would be...

Thanks Dave, it was exactly where you said ;)

That other switch will go as it is for my chip which I don't use anymore so I'm pulling it all out one day.

nice one Sej.

I have just realised from your post my back lighting doesn't work. not sure what i did there although i do remember it was pretty bright and i wasn't keen on it at night. maybe i wished it to break....... (people who know me know this is clearly possible - i am gifted around electronics    ) it didn't last long in any case.

for those mounting this item the resistor gets VERY hot so make sure it is well away from all other items and wiring.

i mounted mine under the handbrake so it is easy to turn on and off. never been a problem for me so far.
This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.

Cheers Mike :D

The running lights are mounted inside the ARB indicators which I chopped up.

As for fitting the bar, they're not too hard as long as you have tools and are half handy, you'll be fine. ;)

SEJ GLX-R's BUILD THREAD

Postby SEJ GLX-R on Sun Jul 26, 2015 4:39 pm

Update Time! :D

From early on, I wanted to build a canvas canopy frame for Surgeio and with a Simpson Desert trip coming up, I finally got around to it. ;)

I always seem to make things hard for myself by not drawing up plans and just building from my imagination. I never really know what lengths of steel to buy and what length to get them cut at to minimise waste. This usally results in many trips to the steel supplier rather than just one. The good side to this is changing things as you go and no-one ever knows.

The idea was to have a solid front panel and roof with the sides and rear in canvas. It had to carry my swags on top and carry 3 jerry cans up against the rear window to get the weight above the rear wheels. We all know what happens to MNs when they're not loaded properly. Another idea I came up with as I was building it was to suspend the camp chairs inside the canopy so that they could be taken out and put in without disturbing anything else, I called it the 'chair hammock'.

My aim was to be around the 50kg mark all up but I went 15kg over my goal, not too bad I guess but it is a challenge to fit with just Mrs Sej and myself. I used gal tubing in 50x50x2 SHS, 50x25x2 RHS, 25x25x2 SHS, 20x20x1.6 SHS for the bracing and 0.9mm gal sheet for the roof and front panel.

I fitted 2 ARB canopy vents to keep the dust out and they worked a treat, in the 2 weeks of our trip, we only spent 3 days on bitumen all the rest was on dirt roads, some of which had the most bull dust I've ever seen. :o

Anyway, if your like me you just want pics not a huge story about it so, here you go. ;)

Jerry can holder mounted and some extra bracing

All painted and the final test fit

I have to say, I am alot happier with it than I thought I would be. I'm not a fan of canopies, especially on MNs. It was so much easier to access all of our gear on the trip and it kept all but a small amount of dust out where the normal tarp would fill the tub.

The other job I had to do was fit a second battery, with the camper trailer and our ark battery pack we have never really needed a second battery. A 2 week trip with just the Triton changed that though.

I used a Ctek D250s, 80ah deep cycle battery and 50amp circuit breaker mounted in behind the tub liner. I knocked up a battery frame and welded it to the bottom of the tub, it's protected behind the spare wheel. (Sorry, I don't have any finished pics of the install but here are a couple of progress shots.) ;)

Ctek, Bluesea busbar and circuit breakers roughed in

I'm happy to report, it all went well. :D I think if it can survive the trip we did it will survive any upcoming trips. :D
