Bart's ML V6

Been a member for a while, so thought it time it do something with my vehicle.

First 2 things, unifilter and exhaust.

Unifilter made a small difference, now for the exhaust...

Ripped out the rear cat, and went 2 &1/2 from there. Single offset muffler. Well it's got quite a bark, but geez, a drone at about 1800-2000rpm under load... me thinks a resonator on Monday....

Yes you will need the resonator, I hate the 'drone' sound so many V6 Commodores have.....

Yes, agreed on the v6 commodores Salt. Very interesting to read your build up as well.

Really need to tweak the ECU, but pity it's such a pain in these... I assumed you flashed yours? If so, what program did you use to do the flashing, and what program to read/modify the file?

ECU mods give very little gain if you are after power.

The cheapest and most affective mod is to replace the camshafts with Magna items, approx 20-25KW gain depending on the cams, or 6G75(3.8L) approx 25-30KW gain.

Of course the ECU tune now becomes more effective.....

I use EcuFlash to edit the ECU file and MMCFlash to read and flash the ECU.

You also need to log the ECU to keep track of modifications, I use Evoscsan but it is limited to what it will log, due to limited support for our ECU chips.

I am trying to rectify the logging stuff but it is hard going, currently have some stuff logging but not as much as I would like.....

Hmm, didn't know about the cams. More interested in torque and economy, rather than making high end power.

Sounding easier to do the cams, and then perhaps fit an adaptronic ECU, though I'll need to dig out the wiring diagrams to determine the full functions of the factory ECU.

The Magna cams are a stock item and improve power/torque across the whole rev range.

The better cams are 3.8L 6G75 units or 'Ralliart' 6G74 Both share the same grind and make more improvement.
