Mate if only I had a chance to get the tune checked. I'm just taking it easy until it's been run on the dyno and everything checked. I reckon if I came up I'd get carried away.

Time for an update.

The next evolution for my old ML Triton. Lets hope this is the last.

There will definately be some haters for this one, hopefully you will appreciate why i'm giving this a crack and see the advantages of building such a vehicle.

If you have read through my build you will realise that I don't mind having a go, thinking outside the box, and proving people "WRONG" .

After having the old 3.2lt Diesel rebuilt due to an injector failure and then having the engine fail again. I decided a more radical remedy was needed.

Sime time ago I started to research donor chassis. I had a vision of a solid front axle coil sprung, coil sprung rear and an EFI V8 conversion.

After lots of careful measuring and listening to people telling me I was nutts and it can't be done. I settled on the good old Nissan GQ Patrol to use as a donor. The measurements are suprisingly similar to the Triton.

I submitted a request to Transport SA listing all mods planned for the conversion, including the v8, wheels, tyres, lift etc etc. They came back 5 weeks later with an approval in principle that included 3 pages and 25 bullit points they required from the vehicle, to register it in SA.

I found an engineer willing to work with me and help guide the project to copletion.

Let the fun begin!!

Excuse the wiring mess. This is probably the only daunting part of the project for me.

So there you have it. The beginnig of a new journey.

:D Love it.

How did the Maverick get the V8? Or have you done that as well?

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

I thought I'd save a bit of time and bought the Mav already converted and engineered. The engineering bit didn't phase me too much but it was a sign that the conversion had been completed properly.

That was always the sensible conversion to a live axle
Have thought about it lots, including engineering in Qld
Only thing was a toy for me in addition to the touring ml dual cab. Thinking and designing a single cab v8 patrol triton

Vt commodore 5lt. I wanted this rather than an LS motor. I reckon parts in the outback will be more accessible etc.
I'll need a custom radiator. The Tritons engine bay is actually wider than the Patrol.

The Patrol wheel base is only 30mm shorter than the Triton. However I've had to sit the body back a little to clear the back of the engine and the firewall. Doing this has made the body a pretty tight fit, without modifying the Patrol chassis. A single cab conversion would be great. Unfortunately I still have 3 kids to get in there.

Be alittle bit more work but should be a good result when its done, i think it will tower over my triton haha. Im still waiting to hear back from transport sa with my statement of requirements for the next stage to the triton. Also i will have the same front quater panels as the chapmans triton soon as i have a mate who is a fibreglasser and hes in the process of making the moulds so if you need some bigger guards give me a shout :)
