I just drilled up through the tub and liner... from underneath. I have been known to be a bit rough though. I made my own drawers from ply so where the holes went wasn't critical. They are attached now, all good. pic to come.

Timber easy for me, they are just bolted through the tub. Planning to carpet them next. And replace the side panels with marine ply and put some tie down points in and some little things in so I can open them... (the hatches). Also think I will make a tray for each seeing as they are so deep.

Has anyone had anything to do with the Titan brand draws advertised by 4wd superstore, they ar about $800 with a fridge slide, looking tempting but what do you guys think??

My old man has a set you get what you pay for also they don't go the full length of the tub so lose a lot of space up near the cab.

It's for that reason one is slightly wider than the other...
I reckon they will cost me a bit under $400 when finished; most expensive bits were the slides- $50 a pair for 800mm. There is a bit of space at the front because I didn't make them full length, but that area will take my chainsaw, and maybe down the track some water storage (just run a pipe to the back) or a battery, so it's not wasted, just a little harder to get to.

This was my method if anyone's interested -Box: 42x19 glued and screwed to 12mm ply, top and bottom same, cut sides to suit.
Made the drawers to fit- didn't work with the slides (too narrow slightly) so used mudguard washers for spacers, spot on. I used loctite on all the nuts. (Had to modify some bolt heads to suit the runners).

What type of runners did you go with? I fitted out my work trailer with ball bearing kitchen style runners from bunnings. They have lifetime warranty and no small print saying not to be use in a vehicle. Flashest work trailer with soft closers and all.

Same- from Bunnings but I didn't see that small print! $50 a pair for 800mm 'heavy duty' ... they seem to work fine, time will tell I suppose.

How did you set up the locks from the inside

A little bit of square 19 x 19.. I did forget and screwed it from the top so can''t remove the drawers - should have made a little cutout in the back panel. I'll fix that with lots of little drill holes and a chisel. Don't really need to get them out though unless a mouse dies behind one...See the cutout in the tray on the right hand one. Not high tech but it works.

(gulp). Being rural SA i can't see and touch anything in person, so i'm about to take the leap into drawers and order some over the phone.

Just measured the distance between the wheel tubs of my 2008 ML tray. distance is 1070. Do i order drawers 1070? 1060 for safety? Or would drifta for example have pre-cut drawers that have worked in the past?

When you've put your drawers in, did you have them flush at the back of the tray? Or set them up to be flush at the front of the tray?

How hard are drawers to attach to the floor of the tray? Just drill and bolt?

Took the tub liner out yesterday, floor of the tray has rubbed down to metal in a few places. Is it worth touching up with a paint undercoat to prevent rust? OR maybe something harder like a rhino spray?

Drifta, Lawson's (in Adelaide), Best Offroad (Vic), Outback Touring Solutions (Qld), Full Boar Fourbie Drawers (Vic), and most other manufacturers will have templates already for the tub, it will come down to configuration you want the drawers in really

I prefer securing with turnbuckles to the factory tie down points, as I don't believe in doing unnecessary holes in cars!

Could you explain this a bit further?

The turn buckles are used in stainless wire as tensioners, you can secure them to your draw and hook the other end onto your tie down points and tension.
Not sure on the ML but the MN tie downs are high up so not the best to fix to. I made solid side boxes using the tie downs to secure then your draw set up fits in between and secured to the boxes.

I've taken my tub liner out to put drawers in (should arrive next week).

I've noticed the liner has rubbed through the paint in a few areas, back to bare metal. Is it worth covering with an undercoat? Paint? Some sort of protective rubber spray (raptor lining for example) before i install the drawers?

I'm no expert, but if it was mine I'd paint the bare bits, probably with some killrust that doesn't need undercoat. If the drawers are staying in then just about any paint you have on hand should do the job I would have thought.

whilst the same tub liner is in it wouldn't rust because it is being rubbed in those locations. once you take that liner out then it will have a chance to surface rust (remember modern cars don't rust like the old days due to metal/alloy composites) because it wont be constantly rubbed.

If you are going to cover it with drawers just prep it and paint it as close a match as possible then place your drawers in.
