SCME's 2014 MY15 GLX-R

Postby SCME on Tue Jul 15, 2014 5:09 pm

Hi everyone,
My girlfriend and I picked this up last week. Bought brand new from the dealership.

Mitsubishi Triton GLX-R 2014 MY15
Black
Manual
Normal extras: floor mats, tub liner and tow pack.

Future mods will be (not in any hurry to spend money on this yet. Because I have another car using up my money ATM).
2-Din Sat NAV with reverse camera
Soft tonneau cover
Rip off factory tint and replace with 15% with U.V protection.

Girlfriend would like some 33" muddies with black sunraysia's
Also a 2" suspension lift.

The GF next to it. She'll probably drive it most. As where I work isn't the best for nice new paint lol.

Already bought a soft tonneau cover. Should get that tomorrow.

Would like to go and pick up a 2-din GPS head unit with reverse camera soon, but I should be picking up my motor for my other car this week I hope.

Welcome along.

You'll have some trouble removing the "factory tint". It's privacy glass - colour is in the glass itself. ;)

Just a commodore, nothing special in terms of the model. Was a daily but things snow balled.

Thanks for the tip. Come to think of it, I've noticed other newer tritons with miss-matched front to back window tint.

Yes, privacy glass is allowed to be darker than applied tinting film because it comes that way from the factory. The crazy thing is that it has little or no UV filtering capacity so if you add a clear UV film it is then classed as "tinted" and therefore illegal.

Welcome :)

I went 5% tint on mine and had a local guy who has tinted all my cars do the task. He first did the front and then for the back went through the various stages of darkness till he found a match. Not 100% sure but think it was about 20% on the rear over the privacy glass to get the same look. The rear cab windows I didn't bother with just in case a canopy is ever fitted ;)

Is it the angle of the photo or is the rear window clear?

Just the angle.

I actually hate new car smell. Missus loves it, but I can't wait till it goes.

Done about 600km's in just over a week now, with a 1/4 tank left.

Hey everyone, I've been on the look out for a GPS system to replace the standard radio. Went to my local Mitsubishi dealership today and I can't get the MMCS system from them unless it was installed from factory?

I really want a GPS system with reverse camera, but I want it to look like it belongs there. Because mine is the MY15, there are currently no facia's for aftermarket units. But I would prefer genuine, so everything works (steering wheel controls including bluetooth controls, also microphone in the roof).

This is what I'm after. Preferably for cheaper (second hand even), but if I were to get the unit from overseas, what problems may I encounter?

Got the windows tinted today. Front to match the rears and then a U.V film over the rears as well. Come up really good.

Will get photos tomorrow of the tint work after I wash it.

You can buy that fascia from the photo or you can buy the earlier model without the info display up top. These are available in either genuine parts or in the case of the one without the info display in an aftermarket part. The problem you would have if you did manage to buy the genuine item is that your vehicle probably won't have the correct wiring harness in it. I have the older MMCS and my wiring is quite different to a non MMCS vehicle (which can be a real pain in terms of trying to buy things to integrate - I've had to buy peugeot parts on occasion...). You're probably better off buying aftermarket. If you're careful about it you'll still be able to use steering wheel controls - whether you DIY or pay someone. A lot of the ebay jobs let you choose a logo like the mitsubishi 3 diamond or whatever for the boot and exit screens so it looks like it belongs. The digoptions have a pretty good history of decent looking installs if you go down that path. They've been relatively plug and play for earlier models but I don't know if there are any changes between those and the one you have now.

Can't buy the MY15 facia/ or the GPS unit. I've got friends in at the local genuine spares department and Mitsubishi confirmed it.

I'm guessing the reason why is because of the wiring harness like you mention.
The person from Mitsubishi Australia said to go aftermarket. But aftermarket won't work with Bluetooth phone controls.

The MY15 dash shape is still pretty new. So I'm guessing and hoping that in the near future a complete facia that can accommodate a 7" screen is made available.
Otherwise a insert has to be made to fit in between the current facia and the screen.

Thanks for your help.

Either we're talking about different things or you've been misinformed. The reason I say that is that I have the MY15 fascia in my 2009 MN right now. Like so:

Obviously mine is missing the info display up top but I plan on putting something else up there now.

And the dash shape up there is just the same except that hood so if you don't need the extra bit up top for the info display then you have a choice of 3 or 4 different hoods from earlier models that will all fit.

Ah my bad. I'm getting mixed up.

Can't buy the gps from spares and for some reason I thought the gps and facia would come as a combo.
I am wanting to keep the top screen.

Thanks mate. You've been a big help. Going to go with that option.

Looks identical to one of the versions on eBay. Could possibly be the same. Will do a bit of research and hope to get one soon.
