Sam's rebuild.

Postby TUF909 on Thu Nov 27, 2014 6:33 pm

Well now that i have some time off, i have decided to strip the truck down and rebuild it. Most will remember it as it currently stands. And whilst it is a great rig, i have decided that some changes could be made to make it more family tourer friendly (but still keep it looking tough of course).

So on the list is;
- Will build new tray
- Will make new aluminium canopy/cage
- Service winch, relocate solenoid box and replace cable with dyneema
- Rust protection for chassis
- Dual battery set up permanently somewhere (currently portable)
- Will make a drop down fridge slide for the 80ltr waeco
- Make a tradies rack for bulbar to carry lengths of steel, aluminium and stainless etc
- New exhaust
- Towbar

Have already designed the tray, canopy and fridge slide, so hopefully get some materials in the next week and start welding up.

remember, clicky clicky

Ordered my exhaust today. It is a 3" stainless steel turbo back, with hi flo cat and straight through muffler. Made by xforce and ordered from mufflermen in nsw. Very helpful guys. Cost I think just under $900? (I should probably know that haha). Will be good to see the 3" mild steel go.

Was talking to him about price, and why so cheap, he said once one person does it, eveyone else has to. So he puts them on ebay at a good price. Lot better than the motsa beaudesert wanted for one!

Hmm bugger. Not sure what's going on there. Will have a look on lap top when I get home.

Update: after I put the pics up here I started organising my photobucket library, and I renamed the folder that those pics came from, which obviously has buggered things up. I'll jump on lappy and sort it out soon.

just booking my barge ticket to moreton island. Woah, bit pricey. $256 return, because the entire of janurary is peak season :/ (where they'd be making more money anyway.

I selected to book vehicle permit with them, to see what it would cost. It's $45 on the parks site to book, the barge mob want to charge $50. Kidding them selves. Aw well.

Anyone who has been to moreton got any tips on things to see and places to go and not go? Also places to camp?
We are staying at the tangalooma island resort for 2 nights, and get to feed the dolphins. And i thought if we had time, might stay an extra 1 or 2 nights camping somewhere to have a good break. Don't want to rush if i have to pay that price for barge and a months worth of vehicle permit

(should also mention, we have a 18 month old girl, so quitter the camp areas the better)

Been there a few times now . What an awesome place to visit . heaps of good spots along the north western zone for camping ;) . Hands down best places on the island are honeymoon bay and the champagne pools . Lighthouse walk is a must too and also the big sandhills . If your keen for abit of a tough walk there is mt tempest trail too . Pretty tough ( in the hot sun with no water and footwear anyway  ) but the views are worth the climb . Should also drive middle road both ways atleast once 8-)

Thanks krazed. Sounds good! Don't think we'll be doing any big walks with the little one, although wish I could. What's the go with middle road?

Sounds like the northern end is a bit better? Have you done fraser? How would you compare the two?

Sneak peak. I have been doing some to scale floor plans of the tray to finalize some sizing. This will be the back of the tray.

A bit off topic, but thanks for the idea of using the garage floor as a full scale drawing board. Killer idea!!!!

Haha i was stoked when we bought this place and realised the floor was completely flat. Doesn't have that "ramp" for run off. A box of engineers chalk and a length of aluminium and you're set for full scale mock ups.

Really good idea for a real view of what you have in your head, It´s like a cheaper versión of ¨Solid edge 3D Software¨ ;)

So jealous I might go back for the experience   Not being a welder type I am guessing the plug in the back passage helps with loose bowels caused by the rotting turtle.
Let me know once the Plug has settled in
