Morning. Starting a big job today.

Installing new double din heatunit, amp and speakers, reverse camera, and trying to get the stubborn nut and stuff off the back of the turbo.

I am planning on installing the amp behind the back seat, and possibly end up putting in a sub in there as well in the future. Am I fine to drill/screw the amp into body. I assume I will have problems with 2 x rca's, power and speaker cables as well as the camera's rca cable running along the door sill trims.

Any advice for running power from battery into cab for the amp. The driver side already has a cable run for my light bar/switch and Boost Guage. ANy other areas I can run cables through ?

cheers

There are some rubber bungs on the back walls off the tub, that you cant see till you remove the plastic liners in ths rear wheel wells.
or remove the plastic trims behind the rear seat.

As above those bungs at the rear are easy. If it was me I'd pull the whole rear seat out while you're working, it will be much easier that way. If you use both sides for your cable runs you should have a fair bit of room. Otherwise lift the carpet a bit and run some wires down the side of the transmission tunnel near where it meets the floor. You won't even notice the little lump of wires though the carpet.

What a PITA.

The S150 stereo I bought from Ali express doesn't fit. The screen isn't wide enough and is too high to fit in the hood. And the head unit doesn't have mounts to sit in properly. Not impressed at all as now I have no music as I have installed an amp and speakers and the OEM head unit doesn't have rca outputs. grrrr

Did you get a new hood or are you trying to fit it into the one that had the info display in it? If you didn't buy a hood then that's probably your issue. The original hood isn't the right size for double din of any brand, it is too low - unless you had the double height stereo already.

As for width, you need a little spacer either side. If you have the double high factory stereo you modify its surround to fit the new unit. There are very few headunits that are wide enough to fill the whole gap, which is wider than a standard double din.

Have you read the digoptions fitting thread? That will have most of the information you need to get it sorted.

Well I assumed I have the double din stero (not the gps version). I have a MN 2014 . No info display.

And the screen is going to sit far too back compared to the unti I have now.

The headunit doesn't fit properly either. I pulled the empty holder out - the brackets dont attach to the head unit anywhere.

I have installed quite a few stereo's in the past so am bemused as to this issue.

My hood looks exactly like the one in the digioptions thread.

SLIMaxPower, does your dash look like this?

Or this:

This is the unit you said you bought. Is that correct?

Please go and measure the size of the screen, width by height and report back here.

OK. So you are trying to fit a unit designed for a GLX-R into a GLX. As you've found out, it won't fit, since it needs the GLX-R pod which is the one in my first pic, above. That pic, incidentally, was taken from the AliExpress site that you linked as the one you bought.

The link to that thread that CD put up was for installation in a GLX-R, not GLX. What you need is a pod from a GLX-R. I don't know if TritonWreckers have one but well worth sending them a PM. Otherwise you'll have to buy one. From memory around $70 at your local Mitsubishi dealer.

Does the pod come with brackets ?

And the head unit doesn't have brackets that fit - will I need something else for it ?

The pod itself? Probably not. But see if Triton Wreckers can help you first.

It's easy enough to make up some brackets. Bunnings have a good selection of predrilled brackets in various sizes if you don't have anything handy. I made some when I installed my double din unit. There are pics somewhere - I'll hunt them up.

SLIMax's Break It and Build It Thread

Postby NowForThe5th on Wed Mar 18, 2015 6:00 pm

OK, I've created this thread and moved all the posts relevant to your build in here. If I've missed any, just let me know. I haven't moved posts that might relate to your vehicle but were on topic in other threads.

You can use this thread rather than the "Ask here first..." one for things relating to your build.

Aerpro sells more than one kind but they're hard to find.

One trick that sometimes applies is that if you grab the plug you have now, and trace the loom back into the dash you may find a second plug. They used to do this with the ML and I think I've heard of it with the MN as well.

Aerpro and DNA both do double din facia kits and spacers that should fit that bill.

Yes, that is what I had to do with mine. One adaptor from radio to a plug and then another adaptor from that plug to the Mitsubishi harness. Complex, but it worked.
