ML triton build

Postby Stassy94 on Tue Mar 15, 2016 7:56 pm

Hey guys finally writing up a small build on my ute. Bought it stock standard with 145,000kms it now has 152xxx on the clock. Came from a background of "fast" rice burners including my last car my beloved s15 200sx :( Time to switch it up! I always had problems holding onto cars, Im 21 years old and the triton is now my 11th car... But the longest one i've owned and i don't see myself selling it ever 8-) Was looking for a triton for over 6 months, was catching public transport to work i was THAT picky in it went and saw so many but just wasn't satisfied as i've made the mistake before where buying a car and rushing it. I caught a plane to canberra just as i was about to give up all hope and long story short i was the owner of this ML triton!

first thing i did was clean out the disgusting EGR and install my sound system myself (mounted amps under seats without thinking of the water ill be crossing have since relocated to behind the back seat)

next was to use my electrical trade to my advantage and wire up some led bars, tray lights and reversing lights all controlled by rocker switches and install my uhf etc. Also put in an auxiliary fuse box to keep all the circuits unseen and just run one 4 gauge cable to feed it.

now it was time to install my snorkel, custom fog lights as my old ones got destroyed offroading, took my ute to stockton in the new year with my new awning and had an awesome time fishing and enjoying the sand driving (on my stock 245 tyres still  )

Now for the exciting part imo. I had always wanted a steel tray not only for clearance because i got over smashing my tub around, but for practicality. I got one made up DIRT cheap from a mate and modified it towards the end adding lights, mounting points, water storage that holds 20 litres of water and looks neat. also got around to doing a 2 inch body lift!

so that is the majority of the work, apprentice wages can be tough but i think its come a very long way slowly. Next is a dobinsons kit and some 33s, cant stand running the 245s still not only does the tray look abit awkward like a bloke thats skipped leg day, but it doesnt go the best in different terrains. cant complain though shes taken me through some awesome tracks in lithgow without a problem 8-)

looking 8-)

If you are doing any rough corrugated roads then you may be better off with something a bit stronger for mounts. I have had similar mounts on my camper break

Yeah I know mate spewing I wanted it higher, I have body blocks at home I could use I guess the steel tray is very light so it should be able to hold it fine, just gotta cut the headboard bar lower too by 50mm or even make it level with the roof :x

Nice tidy job there.

I'd get some 20 x 3mm flat bar to bend up some saddles to support the plumbing and use some 8mm screws. Those downpipe clips are not designed to take any significant weight.

Yeah I know it's holding me back from going for a wheel cos if I hit any corrugated roads I know the whole thing will probably snap, I have heaps of steel here leftover from my tray just gotta wait for the weekend to weld it up to support the water storage

Looking really good, You have done a great job. Only wish you was close to me, you might have been able to wire up a reversing camera for me and earn some extra dollars to spend on your triton. :D Being blind in one eye, I seem to be able to hit things easy while reversing as can't judge distance too well.

started on my breathers, extended the rear one and used alot of black silicone apparently its heaps good, just need to make a little cover for where the breather ports are mounted for rain and just a general protection. also added truck lights i know people will think theyre stupid but each to their own just trying to be different haha
