Subi..

The system isn't out yet as far as I can find (reported sometime middle of the year) so only be guessing but reports are about $500US ($650ish at current exchange) for the computer probably depending on what different spec's it comes out with and what you choose.

OBDII - Currently at $13AUS on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/OBD-2-OBDII-EOBD ... 1|294%3A50

Power $6AUS Ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Universal-AC-DC- ... 1|294%3A50

Probably would be a little more expensive than yours Subi..

Just my thoughts

PS those ebay items are only real quick examples I just picked the first option for both so may not be the best or worst in price/quality

Hey guys does the GPS software you put in the carpc's have the traffic warnings available like the new Navmans etc? Or will it be accessible as an add on?

Cheers.

OZIexplorer won't do it mate, but there is built in nav software (which I haven't got Aussie maps for yet) plus you can get TomTom etc. for windows.

Let me know if you need the maps Subi, I can cut you a CD for you if/when you make it to the Brindi's trip...

OK thanks for that.

I've been waiting for the traffic warning GPS's to show up as I'm sick of being directed into traffic jams and then turning off (not knowing where I am) and the thing then trying to get me back to the highway with the traffic jam on it.
I then blunder around doing the opposite of what it tells me until I figure it realizes I don't want to go where it wants me to go.
Then I follow directions again and 15 minutes later I'm back at the F'n traffic jam.

We have stern words and the stupid b**ch gets replaced by the fellow

Then he inevitably stuffs me round and the f****n P***k then get's replaced by the young lady again :(

They seem to have a basic system now but I hope good technology is quick to market.

subi,
If you want to add DVD to it can you just replace your Kenwood head unit with a DVD player and run it straight to an input in the back of the screen? Are there enough inputs with the PC connected?

Or just get your movies in AVI format and run them straight off the PC. 8-)

there are, but I would want the movies on a 2nd screen in the back, rather than on the front screen (the PC has dual monitor outputs so it's quite possible  )

Sorry for the hijack but on the topic of AVI converters, does anyone know of a good one. I've trialled heaps that fall over at various stages. :x

I have had trouble downloading torrents with my crappy internet service. I'm stuck on ADSL (12mb/sec) and have only managed to get songs. Movies fall over. Bloody Telstra!!! :x I live 20 km from the GPO in Adelaide and get absolute crap services. No water or sewerage and regular blackouts. Bloody governments and lack of infrastructure investment!!! :x :x

Just on a side note subi,

You can get awesome maps for OziExplorer with a tool called gMapMaker. Its free. It rips map images down off Google maps and stitches them together to make one big map and also creates the OziExplorer map file. I always use the terrain maps at about 15 zoom level... most tracks are on there at that level...

It's great, just don't try and put too big an area in because it will struggle with memory.

Cheers guys! I'll give it a try tonight. I assume it will convert a DVD to AVI format.

OK, I'll make a little confession - this wasn't my first attempt at the carPC. Mark-1 was installed on an old Triton here on the farm... there were several drawbacks with it, and I used the experience to improve what you see today in the pics above...
