Stu, all my pics are stored on Photobucket, and linked in the post - maybe Photobucket is blocked by your server or security somehow?

The touchscreen wasn't hard to fit, It comes with it's own stand that I screwed in place but I did have to cut the plastic to increase the width in the opening (you can see it in the 5th pic).

Cheers

The after market stereo head unit at least saves you having to run an amp... I like the way the Triton fits the 7" screen... loks factory with relative ease and bugger all cutting...

For the outside temp reading, if you use the OBD connector you can get this from the current intake air temp reading as its pretty much spot on...

Will keep reading... just got through page 1

subi_man wrote:Pretty sure this can be done Kev - the Centrafuse software has a built-in OBD reader (for the plug under the dash) and there is other PC software for OBD stuff. I haven't looked any further into it because my Scanguage does the fuel consumption calcs like the original trip computer did

Cheers

Unfortunatly the OBD that comes with Centrafuse is pretty limited... but there is more and more software being released that soon a good plugin should be available so that you can sutomise the readout alot more.... Cenrtafuse OBD comes standard with all the petrol readings and not many for the diesel... (page 2 is almost useless)

Would be nice to also monitor other events like Auto temp... save on purchasing gauges and having to find somewhere to fit them...

Sean, meant to tell you I got Destinator working OK, thanks again :)

I used Ozi for most of the trip, but Destinator came in handy in towns 8-)

Tex wrote:Could you remove the 7" screen and PC and re-install the original display screen to return back to original :?:

Short answer: Yes
Tex wrote:Are you using an ipod or running itunes on the PC :?:

My MP3's are loaded on the hard drive and run through the standard stereo system.
Tex wrote:How is it secured to the floor :?:
Could it go behind the rear seat :?:

It isn't at the moment but the seat rails actually hold it quite securely. The plan is to have it behind the rear seat once the childerbeast's seats are removed. 8-)
Tex wrote:Are you powering it from the starter or 2nd battery :?:

Second battery after that was installed. Initially, it was off the first battery.
Yell out if you want to have a look at my setup Tex. I'm not that far away.

G'day tex - not sure what the other carPCusers have done, but mine is like this;

The cutting I did to install the screen won't impact on re-installing the original display (I plan to do this if/when I ever sell the Triton)
I have a 60gig iPod that plays via the music player built in to the Centrafuse software
My PC is secured to the floor/carpet with velcro strips - I was worried about vibrations from the body of the ute if the PC case was screwed down hard (but there might be no substance to my concerns)
It could definitely go behind the rear seat, and that would be ideal as it's out of the dust and potential water - you would need longer cables in this case, which is why I didn't do it first up.
Mine is powered from the main battery because I don't always carry my 2nd battery around. With the Carnetix power regulator, I haven't had trouble with the main battery running down...... yet!

Hope that helps mate

Cheers

Tex,

Rear setup of mine...

contains all the 5 food groups... PC, Power Distrbution, AMP, Wireless AP, Antenna's (GPS and Radio - Hidden behind the plastic strip at the top.)

My screen is irrelivant as mine's not a Triton but I can replace the standard plastic console I cur for around $50 and none of the fctory wiring was cut as I used an adaptor from supercheap to connect back into the speaker loom.

The PC give much greater finctionality than any iPod or GPS device on the market... BUT... you have to be able to drive it confidently to get the setup right...

If not a PC buf, then these devices appear to have good alround funcitonality with a good reputation...

Yeah mate.. they are not for everyone... but the other options with the PDA/Screen combo's are also okay..

But if you're the sort of bloke that thinks the journey is part of the final outcome and not just after a solution, then they are a lot of fun..

I've just got a new timer built so will add that into my build when a I get some more time...

new timer will instantly shutdown
AMP,
Screen,
USB

when ACC is off but keep PC running for 30-40 minutes before hibernating...

IF ACC is restored prior then AMP,USB,Screen is instant on along with PC...

Those with a CarPC will understand why this is useful more so than others...

I am so in awe... not only is it a mad setup.. but i cant even take off any plastic bits on my car without killing them let alone installing something like this and having it all fit back together.
I had to take my glovebox out once.. and it now doesnt shut properly
