Greedy's Red Mitsubishi (Eccy for the chemically enhanced).

A lot of water has passed under the bridge in the build up of the triton. Following the lead of a few others, I'll try to keep most of the stuff about my car in one thread from now on.

Firstly, just a recap of what has already been done. It started with the crap that dealers like to call "Delivery". I was after a VR with ARB smooth canopy, trade rack, ARB bullbar, factory towbar, tub liner and Autron cruise control. ARB in Adelaide are known as the worst estimators of delivery dates and didn't let me down. I got a VR with towbar, tub liner and cruise control and about 6 weeks fighting with useless pricks. The dealer also couldn't give a shit either as I had taken delivery. Leading up to winter with no cover on the tub. I wasn't firetrucking happy. :x Eventually, they got the job done though and was pleased with the result.

My first mod was to retrieve my fog lights from ARB (thieving pricks) and take out the blanks in the bullbar. The lights fitted with very little modification despite what ARB said. I managed to butcher the surrounds though in trying to get them to fit. The bullbar still looked a little bland so on went a set of kickarse spotties (220mm roo-lites). 8-)

Then fitted a miccon turbo timer.

Next was the car PC. Details of that build can be found in this thread. Also included here were the DVD headrests for the childerbeasts.

The stock suspension then had to go. I was getting seasick from all the bouncing and SWMBO felt like she'd fall out on most corners due to excessive body roll. Dobinsons got the nod. All in here.

Buzzy then came to the party by getting rid of his prototype front bashplate (3mm stainless steel with GLX-R stamped in it). I coupled this with one of Mitsi's upgraded rear plates.

I plan to use this car mainly as a tourer so next on the list was a dual battery system. Redarc are the isolator to go for IMO. Cheap and dead easy to use. 8-) Given the lack of space under the bonnet, the tub was chosen for location and details can be found here. Given my new found knowledge of battery systems, I have now also added a second Redarc isolator in the rear battery box to allow charging of the camper battery as well.

With all this 12 volt power, the next decision was what to add next. I liked the look of the rear lights some members had in the cutouts of the factory step bar so decided I had to have some. Dead easy install and I now have them also seperately switched so they can be used at any time. It certainly makes a difference reversing up my 50 metre windy driveway. 8-)

And that's pretty much it in terms of what has been done and described. Note: No upgraded tyres yet! :x

With the trip to Queensland fast approaching and me without a job, I thought I'd better get started on the tub and finish off the drawer system I started with the battery/storage box. I want these removable as I find them to take up a heap of space when not being used. This meant 2 seperate units. I have used 16mm MDF mainly because I have no knowledge of welding.

Started out by measuring what was to go in the drawers. This was mainly food containers and tool boxes carrying various stuff like tools, air compressor and gas fittings/spares etc. I then had to consider the 3 way fridge. It has to go as high as possible as you can't pack shit on top of it. The fridge restricted the height of one of the drawers to 200mm which just fits my tool boxes in. The other drawer is 250mm to accommodate the food containers.
The bearings are 8x22mm (8 per drawer) and run on a piece of 20x20mm box steel.

I still need to build the wedge that will hold it all in place on the passenger side. Currently, I have offcuts of MDF performing this job. This wedge will also extend the top to the egde of the tub. The front of it will house 12 volt sockets. The fridge wiring will be spring loaded from the roof of the canopy to avoid snagging.

Mate - shit hot job there Greedy. Looks fantastic. Is the fridge slide a bought one, or did you knock that up too ?

How did you go about fastening the drawers down ?

The fridge slide is a bought one but I'm going to modify it so that when it's fully extended, it will tilt down so the shorter people in the family can see what they're doing. :P At the moment, the drawers aren't tied down at all but I plan to use some sort of belt system to hold them down using the tie down points at the rear of the tub. They didn't seem to move far over the weekend although the clearance between the top of the fridge and the canopy light is minimal and now the light is hanging by one screw. :x

Cool - I'd be interested to see how that restraint system goes. Im not keen on drilling any more holes than are already there either.

Love your work Greedy. Great descriptions and terminology...especially in relation to ARBS.

Do you think you and Tars might make it to Brizzy around the 29th August for a bit of sand hill/beach bashing on Straddie? Would be cool to meet up with some of the people from here (I've only met one guy from the site myself).
I'm sure Eccy would love a play with Snowflake ;)

Hey Buzzy - I think we should be around that way at that time. Have done a bit of a draft itinerary which is pretty flexible atm so can check that out when I get home to see approximately where we would be. We will either be around the sunshine coast (plan to do Fraser) or the gold coast I daresay. I looked up Straddie and it looks like a great place to visit.
I am sure Greedy would be keen. If he is reeeeaaaallllly nice to me (hint hint Greedy)I say it would be fine. You may have to put up though with one of our friends who is coming with us and his Hilux. At least he will have the Trites there to pull him out.

Haha good mate, Straddie's a nice spot and well worth a stop even without meetups.
If we had more time we could do Straddie one day and take the little barge from there to Moreton Island the next. Never enough time it seems!
Yeah I've got a dark sider coming with me too, not as useful as yours though by the sound of it.

After the trip to Qld, the tyres are now officially buggered. This, coupled with the fact Tars has pissed off to WA for the week, have led me to swipe the card.  Finally, I have tyres I'm happy with and a speedo that's accurate as a bonus. They certainly fill the wheel arches a bit more now. 8-)

The tyre place said they were going to remove it but...... I'll get around to it one day in my usual fashion. The young junior spat it because he can't climb in anymore. The extra inch just did him in.
