Mccann's Carpeted Tray

So I wanted to protect the tray without applying a permanent product. And those plastic ute liners scratch. So I found an alternative. So here is what I did.
I took a trip to Bunnings to see what materials they had. I chose some indoor utility carpet, comes 2m wide and $33/lm( i got 3m of it).
I chose this because plain old marine carpet is very scratchy, the indoor carpet is made pretty much the same but it is a lot softer and wont scratch much. Just to be on the safe side I also got some of the non slip mesh, to put on the bottom underneath the carpet so it wouldn't slip or scratch. It comes 1.2m wide $12/lm.
When the guy was cutting it, he had the battery operated rotary cutter. So I picked myself up one while I was there. It is a Bosch Xeo ($60). Pretty good little thing, but doesn't cut tight corners very well... if at all.
I also picked up a 5m roll of sticky/hook velcro (sticky on one side, hooks on the other.) to keep the carpet in place.

I did do a template with rough measurements on a piece of paper before hand to make sure I could cut every piece out of the 2x3m carpet I bought.

So it was just a matter of lying an oversize piece on each section and cutting pushing and poking to fit. It is a bit fiddly around the wheel arches and you have to do a few slits to make it fit round the curves properly. And damn is it hard to cut a straight line.....

Took about 5 hours or so, but I think it is worth it.
Question/Comment's welcome.
I always thought why doesn't someone do something about that...........

great looking and good value tub liner, and I bet it doesn't damage the tub like the poly tubliner I had in for 2 weeks in my previous ute - rubbed the bejesus out of the paint in that short time ... I reckon you have it sussed.

Hummm, maybe some lights as well........oh, and...... a Mirror Ball. :D

The carpet is very similar to marine carpet, and it looks like it will breath easy. And if it does get sodden wet or dirty (somehow ;) ). All I have to do is pull it out gurney it, hang it on the line, and bung it back in. Simple easy protection.
