Street machine to serious offroader

Postby tassietriton on Tue Jan 19, 2010 4:59 pm

The conversion of the Triton from a street machine to a capable 4wd tourer is almost complete.
Here is what I have done so far:
The 20# chrome wheels have been replaced with 16x7 Hummers with 33# MTZs.
The chrome side bars have been replaced with custom slider steps (colour coded to match flares).
Stock suspension has been replaced with Dobi's 50mm lift.
Stock CD and trip computer has been replaced with Pioneer in dash navigation system.
UHF installed.
Waeco fridge power unit installed in the tub.
Hard lid and sports bar replaced with Ultimate canopy.
Rear s/s bar has been replaced with ARB rear protection/tow bar (colour coded to match flares).

Still to come:
Ralliart snorkel (to be installed next week);
Wider flares;
Winch (on winch tray attached to front tow bar);
Performance exhaust;
camper trailer.

I will post some photos this weekend.

PS: If anyone is interested in any of the parts I have replaced, send me a PM.

You've been busy there Tassie. Cant wait to see the pics...... :) Should be a pretty sweet truck i reckon ;)
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything important, it's too late to stop reading it.

Got a couple today on a 4WD course out at Baskerville!
Triton was very capable but sh%#@house on the 80klm/h and 100klm/h stopping tests. My car was the worst of the lot - thanks mainly to the MTZ's I think.
They more than made up for it for it in the mud when they left everyone s=else for dead.
From my (very limited) experience today the 2 mod's that enhance off road capability the most are:

Triton was very capable but sh%#@house on the 80klm/h and 100klm/h stopping tests down the back straight. My car was the worst of the lot - thanks mainly to the MTZ's I think.

From my (very limited) experience today the 2 mod's that enhance off road capability the most are:
1 suspension (especially lift); and
2 tyres.

No - there was a guy on the course (who kept getting bogged) who was lamenting that his locker switch wasn't working so I didn't get to see first hand what advantage that would have given him.
