YIPPEEE I bought a UNIDEN UH7760NB on ebay!! Got it at an alright price too $295!

So the question is now Antenna. And I know there is a difference between a good and a bad one.

Any pointers here guys?

Also - I might not have my Bullbar on in time for the Bourke trip and am looking for ideas on how to mount it!!

Cheers

Anyone??

I see there are some "z" brackets - but that means drilling the guard.

Does anyone know of anything that can strap to the nudge bar until my Bullbar is fitted?

There are a couple of options. You can get a large curved bracket (GME makes on for example) that fits around the nudge bar - 76mm or thereabouts - or there is the kind I whacked on mine which has a small rectangular shaped fitting with two big stainless hose clamps running through it, large hose clamps for nudge bar and then smaller ones later for the bullbar.

Yeah mate, can't think where to find it but there is definitely a clamp available for the nudge bar.

A few blokes here have had them

So today I went into town to get an antenna and mount and spoke to a couple of guys re my setup and have come across a bit of an issue that I would like some feedback on.

One bloke told me that if I went ahead and installed my radio on my nudge bar, I would have to somehow get the cable all the way back out of the firewall to install on the new bullbar when it arrives. He told me that if I cut the connector off, I would need an entire new cable from the antenna.

Now I am no rocket scientist, but I have had a few CBs etc, and yes, cable length etc can affect the SWA, but seriously... surely I just cut the connector off, and rerun the cable, and put a new connector on without screwing things up??

Cheers

Sounds like BS to me.
I just cut my old connector off and had a new one put on as the existing one was dodgy. My Father inlaw soldered the wire core to the connector to ensure it doesn't go haywire again. He installs radios for the mines and knows his stuff so I trust his opinion. The one I had was a phone to UHF connector (they are smaller so you can pass easily thru the grommet) but fail pretty often from what he was saying.

Asked the same Q for when I install a bull bar, and he said we will just cut in somewhere in the engine bay, and reconnect using a male and female adaptor, and then wrap in self amalgamating tape to ensure it doesn't cop any interference.

Ah - that i snot a bad idea... cut it in the middle and add an adapter!!\

I was just planning on cutting the connector off near the radio, and then pull the cable out and rerun through the bullbar.

Apparently you can't do this at the Antenna end - is that right?

It depends on your antenna mine unscrews from the base of the antenna so I can move mine around then make the cable feed to where I need it.

Yes you can cut off the connector and just solder on a new connector afterwards. But this does take a bit of basic skill.

The antenna will work fine. Happy to advise you when the time comes. I have done this hundreds if times.

Mind you if the bull bar has a slot mount you may not need to cut off the connector.

i came across this when replacing my bent ARB deluxe bar, which is holding my UHF aerial. No slot  (i think to be fair it may be considered a spottie mount tab).

the panel beater had to cut a slot to get the existing fixed end cable and aerial off, and he pre-cut a slot on the new bar to allow easy fitment before it was painted. So anyone getting a bar may want to consider this modification to the tab before painting.

i have mine on mounting brackets (u bolts and a right angle plates from Dick Smith) I also have a phone ariel on the same type of bracketand I cut a slot in this one as I could not remove the cable from the bottom when the first bracket broke....

Hey mongrel, not sure if you have done it install yet but I got my gme and antenna off prestigecom.net and included the antenna cable. My mount bracket is removable for when I put my bull bar on. I'll post a pic up now but if I get a chance tomorrow I'll put a better one up of how mine fits.

As you can see had to drill the nudge bar out for it to fit the hole.

G,day Dan,

Yes - mine is in for now. I used a 76mm bracket as I have spot lights on my nudge bar. The cable install was a 5 minute job, so should not be any real drama when the bar is put on.

I will take some pics too if I get the chance.

PS - I ran my cable through the small square plug just above the accelerator.

Cheers

Hi all, want to bump this one as it is really hard to find.

Couple of questions
1. Can somebody put up a photo of where they went through the fire wall in an MN? Ive already been up the drivers side and through the grommet in the wing route for the spotties, and that aint fun!
2. Can somebody put up a photo of how they connected to the power from the cigarette lighter? Do you have any noise issues from doing this?
3, Does anybody bother doing a SWR check anymore, or are pre-tuned cables and antennas the go.

4. Quess what I'm doing this Christmas ;)

There's another circular rubber plug roughly above where the clutch pedal would be. There's a pic on here somewhere. I popped that out, cut a slit in it and then ran the antenna cable through there. Otherwise I've run wires in through the big boot on the firewall behind the glovebox but that can be hard work.

I'll leave the rest to others with more knowledge than I.

Black cable conduit runs to round firewall plug bottom right of photo.

I just removed the ciggy lighter and crimped spade connectors to plug straight into the UHF unit.
No static interference or problems.
I use the lighter socket in the armrest compartment for accessories and my bic lighter for ciggys.

I ran my cables up the middle console and crimped onto them there. It was easier than behind the dash.
