My new GL-R

Postby philkr on Tue Mar 16, 2010 6:07 pm

Hi

Been looking thru all the topics and posts thinking about my new GL-R which should be in my hands sometime next week. Dealer eta is 18/3

Dealer just has to fit towbar, tub, torneau, and dust seal kit for starters.

Aiming to add a dps chip, upgrade whole of suspension (or maybe just the shockers), driving lights, long range tank as wells as a reversing camera (thats whats on the list at the moment).

My current ride is an 05 RA LT Diesel Rodeo that has served me pretty well. It has a set of Cooper ATR's (that have been ok) that only have a couple of thousand kms on them so will swap them onto the Triton and get rid of whatever crap it has.

Really looking forward to the increase in power/torque as the Rodeo is pretty gutless..... especially down low.
Will be my work ute on the orchard as well as travelling wagon for the family.

Thanks to all the posters in the various topics here as it is a great resource to troll thru looking for info on upgrades etc.

I managed to contain myself - I was going to type up a little list along these lines:

Snorkel
BullBar
Dual Battery
Sub woofer
Roof racks

etc etc but I figured if I did that I'd be too tempted to paste it into my future mods in the shed and then it'd be my cash disappearing instead!

Im in Waikerie in the Riverland of SA - added it to my profile.
I'll drive it for a few weeks before I make any decsions as to exactly what Im going to do.
Will do what I mentioned fairly quickly except the suspension. Upgraded it on my Rodeo and made a massive difference so that is important.
Leaning towards Lightforce 240's, had the 170's on my rodeo which I upgraded to HID but they really needed the extra diam. I think. Was thinking of Hella 4000's but not so sure after reading the thread on being able to bring them down enough on the nudge bar.
Probably go a Brown Davis tank - a mate had a ARB one (long ranger I think) that he had repaired about 4 times due to leaks/splits.
Will get a mirror/reversing camera, and set up more for ease of hooking up trailers as I tow different trailers often.
Dont need 2 batteries - got a car fridge but dont go camping much (misses not that keen  ).
Still undersided on a bullbar - had a smartbar on the Rodeo which was ok - very light. Did a very good of protecting the front from stone chips, bugs, scatches etc etc that are inevitable on country roads. Wouldnt have done much hitting a roo though as it was too close and they flex too much.

Welcome mate.

I'd wait 5 or 10,000 K's before doing the DPS chip - let it run in a little.
