finally a decision - ARB fitout on rocklickers old bus

Postby rocklicker on Fri Oct 01, 2010 10:57 pm

well after many visits to ARB, TJM and Opposite Lock, I have bitten the bullet and the triton is off to ARB next weekend for bar, winch, snorkel and OME suspension, I was going to get different things from different suppliers but my better half just walked upto the counter and asked the bloke for his best prices and then swiped her card and left, told me to put what I needed on the bill? she loves me. Will try to hang around in the workshop and get some photos of the work and take some before and after shots. will be very interesting to see how it sits and rides after 236,000kms on stock suspension.

Heya Rocklicker - you could well have saved yourself several days of stuffing around and finger pointing, taxi rides etc...

I elected to use multiple suppliers (suspension place, ARB, Diff towbar place) partly cause ARB were busy as crap and partly cause I had no idea how much of my life it would consume trying to coordinate all the various parts getting installed all over town!!!

Also - from your post, it really sounds like you have a keeper (the truck I mean - with all the cool ARB parts on it) :D

Cheers

Mackay's not such a bad spot though rocklicker. My sister and her family moved there from Tassie some years ago. Brother in law subbied with the mines for a while and is a wizz bang diesel mechanic. They're out at Marian.

yeah, dont mind mackay, its a good base for some travel, west to the red centre, north to cairns and cape york etc... its funny, lived in sydney (then gosford) for 47 years, mackay for the last 4, dont like the cities anymore, wouldnt mind a few acres (like about 100) outside of mackay myself, but not much in the way of acres around marian and the like, makes me laugh as the locals think some of the 'outer' suburbs are too far out, takes all of half and hour to get into town and thats in peak hour :D .

mate, Hobart is the same. If you are anything more than 20 minutes out of the CBD you are a cut lunch away. If you have to go to Launceston which is only about 220kays away, its an overnight trip

I remember working in Mossman in FNQ and driving regulary to Brisbane in about 24hrs on my days off, its only 2000 odd kays away

arb combo bar, warn 9000 pound winch, safari snorkel, ome shocks and springs $6800, was originally going to get different bits from different suppliers, came down to customer service in the end, bloke in ARB was willing to walk around the shop for an hour and chat about everything i was interested in, TJM kid only wanted to brag about how many nissans he pulls out of the mud with his toyota? opposite lock were quite good but a little bit dearer, also ARB were the only shop who mentioned anything about what was legal in qld, all the others appeared to be willing to fit whatever i wanted, will post some pics on my shed page, fitter at arb was ok with me getting into the workshop and seeing what was happening,

picked the car up this afternoon, originally quoted 10mm lift at front and 20 at rear, paperwork states heights as
front left was 705 now 755
rear left was 775 now 805
front right was 720 now 765
rear right was 790 now 810
rides heaps better, would have changed them from new if only i had realised
