Headshok's Triton

Postby headshok on Fri Oct 29, 2010 3:12 pm

hi guys!

Meet Melody! hahaha..

Down here in Singapore, our tritons come kinda bare naked, no fenders, pretty much an empty truck. Plus one thing that suxs here is that, we have to put this ugly looking bar behind.

But anyway, here's some pics of my triton so far :) ( Please excuse the pic quality, all taken using my iphone. When i have Melody cleaned up, I'll whip out the DSLR :)

this was melody when she first arrived. totally stock. 205/80R/16 tires. ugly bars. it didnt even come with keyless entry.

first thing first, the tires had to go

Swapped out to Yokohama Geolander AT/S 265/ 70/16. I also got a set of 2nd hand rims. Only thing was that i only discovered that the off set was really A LOT . This rims are a 9JJ with -50 off set :(

Melody on her her wheels. half the tire was coming out.

after driving from the work shop back to my shop, i got worried as this was too illegal. I called a friend and he said it was best i wait for my fender flares to come in ( ordered from Ebay)

so thus, i hda to swap out my tires to my stock ones

Anyway, a few days later, my chrome door handles came in! whee!

Anyway, down here, we dont have a distributor for carry boy and no one does accessories for Tritons. Everything has to be imported in.

I didnt like the full canopy from the Mit dealer ( it was too expensive too). So i looked around the Aussie Ebay and found myself a 2nd hand hard lid. Had it shipped into Singapore!

Though this looks very common to you guys, its the only one here in Singapore. I gotta get it sprayed soon.

now doing a little test fitting

took out the stupid ugly bars

also took out the bed liner ( had to bargain with the dealer for this)

installed!

now after a week, my fender flares finally came in!

how they look like with the stock wheels

the bigger tires loaded up

installed

now i really under estimated the off set and about 2.5" of the wheel still jutts out

I looked around for people to see whether it was possible to modify the existing fender flares to make it wider, but it was too much effort and cost too much. Though we have a fibre glass specialist at the shop who can do it, its too much time.

So i decided, screw it, i'll drive with it until i get caught and fined, then i'll swap back to my stock rims ( with the Geolanders) and keep the illegal rims as they were really cheap when i got them ( about 280 USD for a set of 4, 2nd hand)

anyway, look out for more stuff on melody!

i'm in the car audio industry and this will be a demo truck for my products!

heheh

Cheers all!

hi mate!

thanks.

i considered that, but at $500+ USD shipped to my door step + another $100+ to get it sprayed and installed labour, it might not be worth it as i might still get caught, so lemme run around with this set of rims first, heheh

Main differences are engine (3.2Lt vs 2.5Lt) and the MN increased the size of the tray to make it look humungous.

Hey headshok! No mate, yours is the MN. Apparently the facelift model that we haven't received yet. The big giveaway is the long tub that hangs way out back. Looking good though. I'd be a bit careful with those wheels - the extra track width can put some big loads on things like bearings and suspension components which aren't really designed to take the leverage effect that those wheels will put on them.

hi guys,

thanks for the info.

i really have no idea abt the MN and ML stuff. hahah

we only have the 2.5L turbo diesel version here. I hear that you guys in Australia will be getting the version with the new turbo or something. haha

Anyway, as for the rims/offset, i bought it from a fellow triton owner who used these rims for his MT tires.

got it at a good price.

Will it really hurt the truck?

I'm having a hard time deciding whether to put back my stock rims as these rims are really illegal and i dont really wanna spend anymore money trying to make it " legal" :((

my tires are 265/70/16.

But anyway, the headlamps are stock. All the changes that i've done are all in the pictures :)

Cheers!

boycee theoretically it sounds ok, in Europe prior "MN" sale start up there was a config. available with HP (High Power - that's how its called in Europe) engine (178 HP instead of regular 136 HP) and ML tray...this offer was available for short period of time until full face lift of L200 occured in dealer network in early 2010...however the body was ML looking but with some MN features inside...

headshock I would put these Yokohamas on your regular Mitsu rims...in my opinion it would work and look much better...check in your manual but if I'm correct 265/70/16 is a max allowed size for these rims and it should work perfect...

keep up changing your chariot :D

Welcome headshock :D

Like the redesigned front bar and grille and headlights very nice!

So they still doing the ML tub.. (the ML headshock has the 3.2 diesel here and is the 'older' model to the MN which has a variable vein turbo and 2.5 engine.) The MN here has a bigger tub than yours so it really stands out as they are clearly still making them 8-)

Antenna in the middle of the roof... different.. That weird steel bar under the back of the vehicle.. what the hell does that do?

ML side steps...

Good to see the mods coming along.. The offset on those wheels would concern me just from the reduction in turning circle.. Plus I would hit every gutter until I got used to it I imagine..

hi guys,

thanks!

I spent quite a bit trying to get those rims to fit :( and they're illegal man :(((

anyway, we've got the dumbest regulations down here. the ugly steel bars in the first few pictures are actually kind of required by law. thats y i got a lid ( the aussie lid still looks the best)

anyway, i'll snap some interior pics for you guys next week :)

the interior is slightly nicer :)

Thanks for the help guys

I'll prob change the tires /rimsover next week. :((

Cheers!

I'd put your Tyres on the stock rims mate ;)

I'm running 265/75/r16 on my stock rims with no problems at all. Would be inside the guards and mine didn't rub on the standard suspension so no probs there either

Now its time for a suspension lift and some mud tyres.

Can I fit those headlamps on my 2008 ML V6? or do I have to change grill and fenders?

Already checked that out- cost around $2k

You need 2x challenger headlights @ near $600 (thats halogen didn't price up the bi zenon.
Challenger front grill is around $800

And thats all, the fenders are the same.

not sure what other stuff might be required later though- little brackets, but should be a bolt up fit.

gregned is right - it's a bumper, same is used in challenger (pajero sport)...as I've checked the replacement should be easy as the mounting points are the same...

BTW in europe same looking truck is available...check the link below (its in polish but google can translate automatically)

Looks good mate.

And your offset would be considered standard in California.

Not one 4wd ute with after market wheels that has an offset that isn't like yours...not bloody one!

I think I have a photo somewhere of an offset like your new wheels on the back of a ute and offset like your standard wheels on the front of it.
