thanks for the pics Steve, does make a difference. BUT I have just outlayed for the ironman steps + my Mrs would have trouble getting in and out without them...... looks like I might have to get her a run-a-bout so I can have the Tri to myself :?

Shame as its actually easier to get in and out of now without the steps ... and looking underneath .. the chassis rails are lower then the sills and will hit before the the sills in most cases

Salt ... just had a comprehensive perv at your build    can you give more details on the exhaust now ? ie sound and economy
and can you call your mate and find out what it would cost a normal bloke to have the same done ?

I'm keeping my bent up alloy steps till I get sliders so i dont damage the sills. There is a reason for them being there and i dont think it is to get in and out of the ute

Nothing wrong with your reasoning ... BUT if you remove them and look you will see the chassis hangs about 40 mm or more below the sills and the only reason the steps get bent is to protect the chassis   it would be a very high rock on the outside of the chassis .. and were talking 300 mm toward the outside of the ute that would hit a sill ... you have to look to see what i mean ... if your talking ramp over .. your sills are safe

^^^ the steps bolt to the sills, thats why I took them off as a decent to mega hit will push the sills up as well as writing off the step

And yep I'm getting the scrub bars and steps that bolt to the chassis :D

Somewhere around the $500 mark Steve, no real noticable difference with economy but at the same time I installed front bar/winch Ultimate suspension.......... the extra weight would compensate for any gain in economy.
The sound is awesome :D but I can drive around town quietly or I can put the foot down and it is quite loud echoing off the buildings  and it does turn heads  . Out of town it is not quite as loud and at 100klm's I can just hear it with the wireless turned down 8-)

Will be working somewhere between Shepp, Cobram, Nathalia, Tatura, Echuca for the next couple of weeks, mate you are welcome to call in and take it for a drive.........

My steps are off, looks like and instant lift. Have to wait and see how long before the Mrs. notices!! :o
Might look at a set of iron man steps though they are stronger, they look better and sit way up higher.
TassieML pity your in Tassie, or I'd buy 'em off ya.!!

amazing the difference in looks hey ? and can you see what i mean about the chassis ... and as Salt said ... they are bolted to the sills and a massive hit would root the step and sill

Welcome mate, performance is only really noticeable above 2500 - 3000 rpm perhaps a bit more responsive.

The Unifilter made more difference in the lower rev range and taking off......

I think the steps are there for the ladies, same reason the Navara is built so close to the ground........ lots of soccer mums buying them for a bit more room than the average sedan.

My lovely wife had a whinge at first when I took the steps off but has forgotten about it now, and it is much easier to get in and out, for me anyway

Looks heaps better mate ;)

I did find when I had my sliders off for only a relatively short time that I wore the paint off the sill very quickly with my work boots. I do walk on a fine gravel driveway in dewy boots every morning so that would make it much worse I think..

I had the sill protectors on but did the 90% thing when the drivers side came off and it's lying around somewhere
