Looks good Snooozy you'll be much happier with the amount of crap you can fit in and with the internal supports. I'd be lost without my roof rack. Are you going to fit a tail gate lock now???

Snooozy's Build

Postby Mrs Mooons on Sat Feb 11, 2012 12:39 pm

The canopy looks great Snooozy. It's good to see more people putting the canopies on their vehicles giving them more space and it also gives the Tritons another nice look. :) :)
Yes you can drive the Triton if you stop sulking.

I have been going to do something with the wires from my GPS for some time.

I normally have them running under the dashmat & down to the glovebox for storage & when needed plugged into cig lighter.

This has annoyed me so it was time for another cheap mod.

I removed the dash storage box (GLX) & filed a small groove to take the wires which I fed down to the passenger foot-well.

I then hooked up a dual cig lighter socket to my aux battery via the fuse holder. I just tapped into the wires I already had under the console.

By using the Aux battery I can use the socket to run/charge other devices without having to worry about a flat starter battery.

The wires are hidden under the dashmat as is the small cut-out to get them up the dash, so it is quite stealthy.

No more wires across the dash :) 8-)

To remove the storage box you just find somewhere to get a good grip & pull towards the rear of the car with a bit of force. It is just held in by plastic clips

While I had the console out I took the opportunity to check on my breathers fitted earlier. I also grabbed a few pics :geek:

I removed the spring loaded breather & secured a hose with a clamp (refer pic 3) which then connected to the breather hose fitting. I have since covered the brass connector with a thick tape to stop it rattling.
The other hoses marked were connected to the small steel tube.
In all I have 3 breathers from the gearbox/transfer case. & one from the rear diff

At first thought I could not remember :? ....lazy maybe, but then I looked at the photo & it came back...

It was actually left because I thought the tube might pull out of the boot. The pipe gave me something solid for the cable tie to hold it all together ;)

Mr Snooozy

I've been wondering about some of the dimensions of the ARB canopy and you might be able to help me out. I was wondering what the internal height is. So tub floor to the internal top of the canopy. I was also wondering what the same height measurement is at the back canopy door. I noticed that it's a bit lower where the door is.

If you interested why I'm after those measurements, I'm basically thinking of getting the same canopy you have, I also want to install a draw system, maybe outback solutions. But before I go spend the money I need to be sure that the dogs will have enough room to comfortably chill out. I can get the height of the draws easily enough I just need the total internal height with the canopy on.

Any help would be much appreciated.

If this information is elsewhere on the forums feel free to berate me. I did search for the info but couldn't find it.

thanks alot for the info. sounds promising. the wife says no draws unless there is enough room for the dogs lol. but with that much room they should be fine.

Things have been a bit slow on the build lately but I have done some little things

got sick of the radiator overflow spilling out over the paintwork when the stealers overfill the bottle.

It's the Safari replacement bottle which has a small hole in the top corner.

I just drilled the hole out to 5.5mm & fitted a 5mm elbow with a hose draining under the car. Sealed with a bit of silicone.

Not fitted yet, but made up some HD bash plate mounts to replace the one I broke last Easter. Used Buzzy's CAD design

I plan to do a few small things before the next trip in a couple of weeks
Re-wire the canopy light to the aux batt as well as the Anderson plug in the tub.

I hope do do a few more of the bigger mods early next year when funds permit

thanks tritonmea, ;)
unfortunately lack of funding has slowed the remainder of the build for now, still lots to do but I have plenty of time as I plan on keeping it for a long time.

At the rate I am getting K's on it it will last forever 3 1/2 & yrs & still under 50,000

I need to get out more
