and the story goes something a little like this.....
I had arranged to do a swap
with Ratstriton for his ARB rear bar & my ML GLX factory bar. After his tub removal the rear protection bar did not really look right
As we live 1 1/2 hrs apart it was arranged to do the changeover on the day of the 4x4 show as we would both be there on the same day... all good so far
We decided that doing the transfer in the car-park with the chance of being seen putting the bar under the tonneau cover un-secured might be risky at a 4x4 show with 1000's of 4wd enthusiasts attending.
So we had a meeting place a few streets from the showgrounds ...we thought it was clever
What was not clever was that we did not consider the length of the ML tub & the width of an ARB bar
it overhung the tub by about 8 inches with the tailgate down
not very secure. derrrr.
mmm,
plan B. Mooons is on his way to the show, he has a big arsed MN, that will work.
On the phone to mooons & he is only a few minutes away, "no problems I'll be there shortly", & he was
We remove the boxes from the MN (remember he has a canopy & a set of Black Widow drawers fitted.
In goes the ARB bar....it aint gonna fit.
Ahhhhh bugger we have 2
plans left-
C & D, (we are making up plans as we go now) take it home 1hr drive each way & go back to the show, or my sister lives somewhere around this area
, Footscray I think. I could drop it there & pick it up later-if she's home.
Mooons suggests
plan E,
why don't we just fit it now. So out with the tools (this guy is prepared for almost any situation
) & into the fitting mode. I was relegated to spanner hander as mooons & ratstriton were under the car like a flash.
The looks from people driving by was quite funny, it must have looked very suss 3 Tritons parked in a small unused factory car-park working on a towbar. The police didn't arrive so the locals either don't care or we left before they arrived
The whole process took about an hour & we were back on our way to the show
We decided to follow mooons to the show & the first corner he turned was the wrong direction, we got to upset a few other drivers as we did a U turn & back around the roundabout, Rats being caught in the left lane doing a right turn ...more upset motorists
Over-all a very enjoyable start to the day -who said you need to be 4WDing to have fun
Thanks very much for your help guys, I owe you one
