thanks Stevo.

I think after this rain tonight (still raining we have had constant light rain for last few hours but only 4mm)
Although it has been heavier around Melton.
anyway as I was saying I think you will out-do me in the tyre department for this one, the Duratracks seem to have a pretty good reputation so far. I think they will make a name for themselves in the near future & become as popular as some of the other well known brands.
Pitty they were out of stock when I did my rubber upgrade :(

Loving the thread Snoozy. Well written and interesting too!

Your elect work is of a very high standard Im a sparky and I hear/see some stuff going on on this site and I just cringe !!! Some DIY stuff leaves a little to be desired

Nice to see jobs done properly.

I have bought an ARB tyre deflator on your recommendation and might follow suit with the oil tank.

Seems like the safest way out. Not sure I want to blank it off. Filtering it is best of both worlds.

I have not looked at the 2.5 DiD (do you have the 3.2 or 2.5?) is it easy to fit?

What sized pipes does she have standard? What sized barb fitting should I be looking for?

Matt on the 2.5 you'll need 5/8 or 16mm hose. You'll probably want barbs to match although I had some trouble finding a catch can that had that size as standard. It's easy enough to fit but you'll spend the longest time trying to come up with a neat way to mount the can near the airbox there. Others have run the hose all the way round the other side to near the battery where there are a couple of convenient mounting points.

Thanks CD, you saved me having to measure the barbs/hose ;)

When I get a chance I'll get the ebay sellers details for you. Dont know if they still have them though.

Otherwise the Provent seems like a good option

I found the unit you bought on ebay snoozy but is yours the 3.2lt? Did you have to change the fittings?

Thanks Cowboy Dave, once again... you nailed it. This boy knows his stuff ;)

Thanks for saving me a trip to the HUGE thread on the subject and wasting hours looking for the info needed! :D

I will update soon with the other recent mods, just need to get some pics

Edit
I also added a Unifilter prior to the National Meet trip. Needed a good clean by time we got home, very glad it was not a paper element. Has almost paid for itself already 8-)

& I do like the Unifilter/snorkel combo....sounds mean

You're a clean freak aren't you Snooozy? Takes one to know one...although I'm only a level 7, I think you might be a level 9...

Salt is a level 2 :P (just to get some perspective on the rankings)

Looks like a really neat install. All ready for the 3000 river crossings on the High Country trip ;) 8-)

it's not that I'm all that clean, it's because the white ones don't get dirty (edit - except behind the flares ;) )
refer here for proof

& don't think for one minute that it's clean cos I washed it, it was my sons girlfriend that did that last weekend & I didn't even ask her too
& thats the first wash since the National Meet

Prior to the National Meet I wanted to have the security of a reserve battery so I did a temporary fit in a container in the tub.

With the main component being a Ctek D250S DC-DC charger, so I didn't need to be concerned with voltage drop & a partly charged battery.

I also wanted accessory sockets to cover most applications IE Anderson plug, cig lighter socket & Merrit socket.
These all needed to be fused & a 100A main circuit breaker to shut off all power in a fault situation or emergency.

I also wanted to be able to feed current back to the main battery as a short term boost in case of an almost flat starter battery, for this I used a Blue Sea rotary battery isolator. This way I can isolate power to the Ctek & eliminate the possibility of the current cycling through the charger.

A volt gauge was also fitted so I can see charge condition at a glance.

The cable coming from the battery is in flexible condute attached to the upper side of the chassis with cable ties. It is fused at the starter battery with a sealed large type fuse (don't remember the rating), this way if the cable is damaged it is protected at both ends. I fed this up to the tub via the left hand tail light recess.

I will be fitting this permanently behind the rear seat as soon as I get a chance (minus the plastic container) similar the the way Kegsy has done his setup see here

It is always a good idea to have some instructions on how to shut off power, in case of emergency. This is just a laminated printed page.

Next on the to-do list was an upgrade to the main starter battery. I had been having problems with the std battery not holding up to the short trips I do & the cold weather.

I also noticed a while back when I ran the winch out for a maintenance check that it struggled to wind it back in (motor running & no load  ) I was concerned that if I needed to do a recovery that the battery would die & I would have a real predicament

After a bit of research on NTN I decided on a Century N70ZZL4WD Overlander as a replacement. These are Australian made & have a 24mth warranty. I picked this up for $190 from a friend that manages an Autobarn store :) I have also ordered some Inox battery conditioner through work & will give this a run. The manufacturers of Inox will increase the battery warranty to 3 years if used in a new battery, for the small cost it is well worth it.

I have mentioned this in other threads & will repeat it here as it is VERY IMPORTANT
If you have an aux battery, put a sign of some kind to notify emergency personnel, mechanics etc that there is another power supply. In the event of an accident the fire services need to isolate all power from the vehicle for your safety & theirs.

While I had the battery out I noticed that the battery tray did not have drain holes & had evidence of a high water line where mud & water had been. I gave it a good clean out & drilled a couple of 5mm holes.

Next on the list was to wire up the LED worklight I purchased with the reverse light. Now I had power in the tub it made the job much easier.

I fitted a waterproof switch to the tub rear window protection bar & another inside the cab near the cig lighter power socket (wired in parallel so either can be used)
(the wire in condute was stuck to the inside of the bar with white silicone, although the dust from Trilby has changed the colour slightly  )

I had previously also added a Merrit socket in the same panel (GLX does not have rear window switch here)

With the worklight & reverse light on it lights up the night very nicely & make reversing a breeze in the dark :D

Very interesting and concise build up thread Snooozy! The snorkel really looks good and I agree about the nice noise it makes with the Unifilter  Good idea to put the info about the 2nd battery's location there too. I will have to do that.
