MY GLR Triton

Postby headake on Fri May 20, 2011 4:32 pm

hey guys, thought i would start one of these, my truck is a 2011 GLR triton was brought brand new with 4km on it. she is my first brand new car and my first 4wd.

my previous cars include a 1974 RX2 (which i rebuilt from a shell) 1988 VLT BT1 with walkinshaw kit, 1990 d21 2wd navara and my trusty 2000 TH magna sports.

will be a slow build but i will enjoy evey min of it. first thing that will be changed will be the tires. have done a few trips and they are the biggest let down of the truck (cant understand why dealers sell a 4wd with highway tires)

the day i picked her up

well she gets used as my daily work truck so picked her up on the 15/04/11 and she already has 8000km on the clock... he he love driving her for work and then love exploring on weekends.

got the side curtain airbags, chrome door slit things, and the rear diff lock added in when i brought it so think she will make a very good starting point.

looking at a set of sunraiser rims and maybe some maxxis buckshots/bighorns at tax time
get a decent front bar (i like the xrox bars) some recovery gear and a bash plate.

really looking forward to doing some trips with the club as well.. just nothign to extreem yet as still learning how to used the 4wd

powder coating the rims seems pointless did think about it but wanna change them over for set of black sunnies anyway

The sunnies weigh heaps more mate.
The stock alloys are a good wheel and light. Not trying to change your mind just letting you know.

I notice it with muddies when braking big time.

The steel wheels will take hits off road better though.
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.

ok guys... need help from all those who have done mods already... the tax return is almost here... so the mods are on their way... just wanna make sure i do thinkings in the right order.

wish list:
play rims(steel) and muddies
lift kit
xrox bull bar
rear mmc bar
sliders (if i can get ones that are ok with side air bags)

not sure if the tax will cover all or if i will have to leave out one or two...

but some ideas on an order would be good (based on peoples mistakes and pros and cons)

cheers

Have a look here mate, search can be your friend and there is a link to a search tutorial in my sig line.
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=8123&hilit=what+order+for+mods

This has been covered a few times and is basically something not many people agree on. Finances and preferences differ for everyone and this effects their choice for the order ;)

If you haven't got bash plates...put them at no1!!! The stock ones are crap and the lack of protection they offer can cause you very expensive repairs if/when you hit a rock etc.

My order was

tyres
bashplates
suspension
snorkle
sliders
front bar
winch

I prob would have done the barwork first then the suspension, but luckily mine needed some work on the sussy before I fit the front bar so was able to compensate for that knowing it was going to be fitted.

Again, it will differ depending what you want to do with the Tri also ;)

//edited several times for crap spelling
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???
