Thanks Tuf. Brodie paid $1500. Was pretty happy with that as the amount of work involved in getting the lightbar integrated into the top tube is pretty intense. Was quoted aroung $2k from another custom mob, just for the winch cradle. They didn't seem to keen to do it.

My wife, Rosa and my youngest have headed to Rocky for the week so finiaally had some time to get some closer happy snaps of my new front bar.

The winch is a Runva EWX 9500-Q which I picked up at this years 4x4 show in Brissie.

The light bar is an N-Tech 20" LED Lightbar. I could have had the light on top of the bar but wanted something different. Greg was cursing me when he was doint it due to the work involved but he, like me, was stoked with the outcome.

What made it fiddly.

Can still have the awning Brodie. Just need to lift it up a bit, same height as the basket. Hope to head to Bunnings tomorrow and get a new bracket. The way the doors are designed when open the awning sits in the V thats created. Should be able to open the door when the awnings up also just need to watch the handle.

Started working on some draws for the rig before I headed to Straddie. They are far from finished but coming together nicely. Dads a builder and sadly few of his skills have been passed to me. I even had my manual arts teacher in grade 9 say "your dads the builder isn't he? He'll be bloody disappointed with this!". So the carpentary isn't super tidy but its doing the job. Its modular at present but will ultimately be two main pieces. One will be a permanent fixture, the other will be in the car the majority of the time but wont be bolted down. The idea is to have the back of the rig as a quick and easy base camp for weekends away. Am trying to have it so everything has its spot. Should be good for the trip up the cape when it eventually happens.

So, in pieces, you have the main part with fridge box.

100mm all round with venting. The compressor is up front too so starving the fridge of air shouldn't be a problem.

2nd main part stays in the car permanetly and is the water tank holder. This took me ages to sort out. Wanted the TREDs to sit above it. They fit but the canopy doors are too low to get them out so modified it to take the highlift instead. Few other nooks and crannys for pegs or the oldest boys cricket set.

The fridge box has a draw next to it with a slide out shelf under that will have a stainless steel bunch for food prep etc.

Still pleanty of room.

All togeather.

Also have a little tigerz11 awning set up for coverage when using the space. Gas struts are awesome :D

The setup im after, well an idea of it anyway.

So as stated still a way to go but I'm happy with how is coming together.

Lost my number plate on Straddie so took the opportunity to get personalised plates. Surnames de Roo but that was taken so got the closest I could.

Can see in this pic that I changed the roof rack from the home made jobbie to a 1/2 rack. Still trying to work out where to mount the bike holder but given magpie season is on I'm not riding any time soon

Also tested the winch out today, did the job ;)

Nice work mate :D

Have you strengthened the nudge bar mounts at all? They are reasonable I guess from the factory but probably not designed to take the forces a winch will introduce.

Your canopy is coming along well, lots of room in the ute tub if you can only get stuff in the correct shape
I am having this dilemma atm and am thinking I might keep everything in denim bags or something so they all take up less space instead of having drawers etc. The hard part will be finding what I need when fully packed for camping

Cheers Salt,

The original mounts were used but strengthened quite a bit. A few extra bits of metal under there to deal with the winching forces, its about 8-10mm think now. Greg (Outcast Offroad) has also added an extra botl to the chassis too so 3 bolts holding it on each rail.

Frigde box takes up 1/2 the tray  thats why Im trying to have everyting in its place. Will come together eventually.

Awesome 8-)

No doubt the storage will be trial and error and as you take more trips away stuff will settle into place.
Easy to sit here and think where everything can fit, but it's a different story on the road, I think mine will be an on-going saga

Build looks good. One tip for making any DIY shelf/tray system look mint if you are not a master craftsman.

Carpet.

That stuff goes on easy, and covers ALL the imperfections ;)

Flares are off getting the PlastiDip treatment ;). Glad I put extra drain holes in the top of the mudflap. No mud build up this time :D still needs a wash though.

Remove all the bolts and screws that hold em on. Around 3 near the mud flap then 2-3 up under the arch. The rears have 2 screws that I needed to put pressure on the be able to screw out. Once all the bolts and screws are out get your hand between the mud flap and the bottom of the flare and pull out carefully. You should feel the clips pop out. Keep moving back to front and then its off.

FYI... I have trimmed the front section of my bumper / flare off so am not sure if there is something right down the front bottom. Best check before giving it a yank.

The rubber stripping has always stayed nicely on mine, except for today. Had the rear passenger side stick to the body. Might be a little fiddly but shouldn't be too much of an issue. Just take your time. They sell spare clips on ebay if it all goes bad i have some ready as this is the 4th time mine have come off and they are looking worse for wear.

I got mine from here.

http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/140920778679?nav=SEARCH&sbk=1

On my phone so if the link doesn't work just search 'ML Triton Flare Clip' on ebay. Took a little over 2 weeks to arrive but genuine part and I have issues trying to get to Mitsu with my work hours. Can get them from the local dealer though.

Well the flares are done and back one the rig. Was happy with the result last night, undecided this morning.

Took them off Saturday and preped them, just a good clean with warm water and dishwashing liquid, rinse and let them dry well. Then it was time to paint with the plastidip. First time I have used it and I must admit I was surprised by it. In the end it was 4 coats of black 1 coat clear.

Nice and easy to apply, i was using the spray cans. First coat was lightish then just layered it on after that. What I loved about it was its ability to cover mistakes/accidents. After the first coat was done I was moving the flares from the backyard to the garage. My little guy thought he would help daddy and I came back outside to find him dragging a flare along the pavers, painted side down! Big scratched back to base colour  just ignored it and kept laying on the coats. You cannot tell where the scratches were, the plasyidip has filled it in the. Evened itself out. Great for backyard hacks like myself.

Coverage is a bit ordinary, in that you seem to go through the cans pretty damn quick. 4 cans are now empty, to give 4 flares 5 coats. They are normally $30 a can so adds up pretty quick.

What am i unsure of result wise? The matte finish. Asked the fella at autobahn if the clear will give it a bit more gloss. Yes it will was his response. But while I was doing it thought to myself you put a clear matte finish over a black matte finish you are not going to end up with a gloss-ish finish

The other thing is time will tell how it holds up to being hit with rocks and sand. Guess you can peal it off if it turns to the preverbial, another 1 up on paint.

Would I recommend it? Yeah, for little stuff, sure.

Took another step toward getting the touring side of the rig sorted today :D

Did a bit more work on the draws. Now all painted up with a deck on the draw and the front plate and lock.

Two Jerry cans fit nicely down the side too.

Put a hinge 750mm up to allow the full draw to be accessible. 1st time doing this and I think I put the hinges in the wrong place  but If anyone asks that was the plan all along ;) quick access hatch ;)

Still have a lot to do. Carpet, both side sections, plumb the water tank and the all the electrics. Busy times ahead.

Also got the side awning back on. Higher then before so I can have it up and still access the side door.
