Yeah I had the meguiars left over from a car I sold so I thought I'd give it a go. The thing about the meguiars is that it is always easy to use and generally effective. I bought a bunch of poorboys gear when I bought the Triton new but didn't have the forethought to allow for future scratches. The poorboys carwash detergent is noticeably better than the meguiars just as the meguiars was noticeably better than other products I've used. You'll find the Zaino and the other top brands on the website I mentioned above. Not a good place for your wallet though.

Sounds good!! I'll have to look up these products and see what I can come up with!!

I know scratches tell a story, just hoping to dim it down a bit! I'll grab a pic when I get back to melb! It's quite a decent one (IMO - not sure it will be as decent some others around here!)

Was it you cd that had the peel away paint? The wax type product that rolls on, drys clear and then peels off later?

I'm trying to search up waxit now. I think price will judge how good a brand I go! As much as I would like the best!

I think that may have been helicoptercow who had the peel off protective layer.

As for a serious point i personally believe Meguiars are the best off the shelf products and are pretty good for the price. Having never used any of the better quality products like Zaino and poorboys but i think next time i buy something ill be using CD's website.

I have used the Meguiars ScratchX 2.0 as well and it did a pretty good job on some of the scratches, others were just too deep.

Dan.Batto's Build

Postby dan.batto on Mon Nov 21, 2011 10:12 pm

Been a bit since I wrote in here, so just been getting ready for the HC trip doing a few small odd jobs on the tri.

Rotated the clutch on the winch, didn't have to take the bar off. Did it all fully installed! Took about half hr with the correct tools!

Worked out why my dash light fuse kept blowing, was a dodgy globe given to me by arb for the front Parker lights in the bull bar.

Removed scotch locks from the bull bar install. Have heard bad stories on them!

Attempted to straighten the bash plates - major fail then struggled to get them back on! May already be up for a new pair.

Checked tightness of suspension components. All good!

fixed and tidied up the lights I installed in the tub.

Installed my seat spacers today! Can't wait to take it for a test spin Tomoz and try it out!

Next thing this week is to remove my Christmas tree of wires on the battery and install a fuse box to run all wires to.
Also got a little something else I'll write up about later ;)

For anyone interested, I still have my stock suspension and stock fuel tank. I was going to put them on hard rubbish but if someone is keen please let me know and it's yours.

I use Zaino products. Really good stuff IMO. Paint cleaner / swirl remover, then their Z2 Pro wax with hardener. Lasts about 18 mths.

Can buy it online from Zaino Aus.

Expensive, but it lasts a while.

I'd go for the US brands that the car detail guys use, so Zaino, Poorboys etc. There are quite a few, most will be better than the crap on the shelf at Supercheap.

Your on the money steane, i polish and protect the triton like i do my other cars, and they enter shows..
Dan, also when u do a complete overhaul of your paint, also look at a clay bar. Another good idea is normal washers use baby shampoo (johnson& johnson etc) it doesn't clean your wax/polish off as well as the dirt. It's a miss conception that the cleaner your car is after a wash the better it is, when you start layering your car most washers begin to eat into the layers of coatings you just spent hours on.

There is a Autosmart product which is a pressure can of a teflon spray. I put it on the front of my car and the next few washes it had everything wash off so easily. It was only a short lasting product though.

Best off with a hard polish every 6 months.

Ahhh....the box of tissues and 'Spank' magazine. I passed both too him (along with a 10mm ring spanner and some vice grips) when he was putting my breathers in. I couldn't see what he was doing tho... I wouldn't mind seeing the instructions :?

Nar I bought the 3mm stainless off prestige, but man they are nicely damaged now!!! Most of that happened pre lift though! I was thinking maybe getting the 3mm stainless again with glxr just as I like and then getting a couple small gussets welded to the sides to help strengthen a little. I know would they hold dirt etc but if they are only small gussets I could get in with the hose.

I will get a price on making some 4mm stainless plates with GLXR cut in. I think 4mm stainless you wouldn't need reinforcing. You would wanna upgrade your mounts though.....Like the new shoes ;)
