Dan.Batto's Build

Postby dan.batto on Thu Jun 30, 2011 4:24 pm

So after booking my snorkel in earlier this week and then winning a bullbar on ebay today i figure its getting on time to start one of these!

Got my 07 GLX-R triton in September 2010, at the time was debating whether I got the sr5 Hilux or the triton. The Toyota’s had the reputation but they also came with the $$ factor so with that in mind I chose the triton, and I am absolutely rapped!
So I have decided to do my own build thread,
Already had a pair of Uniden, UHF handhelds so a UHF wasn’t first on the list. After having a look around on here I got myself the iPod connector cable and also at the same time got some Bridgestone Dueler A/T 245/65/16 for the rear. Have kept the front 2 tyres as they were in good condition but the 2 rear were terrible on a wet day, I was sliding everywhere.

My interest in doing more to my triton became more and more after searching around this forum!!! It’s a curse I swear, so down went a deposit onto a set of bash plates from reeldreamer. It was the GLX-R laser cut-out that sold me!

and they have had a good workout!!!

Next up was a UHF. After much re-search on what to buy and how to install etc. I went with the GME TX-3440. I didn’t want change too much to the dash etc so this way all the controls are on the mic. Installed myself.

Went on my first NTN trip and had a bit of white smoke coming out the back, with some pointers from Mattz and a few of the other guys on the trip it was off to Mitsi for the manifold replacement. Got the car back and in went the provent catch can!

After a couple of trips seeing as how dangerously close I came in a couple water crossings I have decided on the Safari snorkel. Thanks to Mattz for helping me out with this one! Its on order and should hopefully be installed within the next couple weeks!

Have been looking at all the different brands and styles of bullbars but have been most convinced on the ARB Deluxe Bar with the Fog Lights. This way I can get the scrub bar/side step and rear bar all matching. Found one on eBay quite cheap, put a bid on and was the ONLY bidder so $800 later I now own a deluxe ARB bar!

Good one mate. Great to see you getting into bankruptcy mode like the rest of us

Look forward to seeing how you progress.

hi folks i want to do this mod soon i really need all your advice.

1. i have the 2.5L 4d56 turbo motor.
2. What size is the internal diameter of the hose i need. Is it 5/8 or 3/4
3. I tried to remove the hose but was stuck on pretty tight so i left it until i got my catch can, do i just yank the hose off?
4. What is the minimum diameter of the catch can inlet / outlet to get

Thanks sportero

Sportero this is probably not the best thread for your post, there are a few catch can threads where it would fit better. I will try and remember to move it later.

In the meantime, the answers for your questions are:

1. Good, that's an excellent motor. :D
2. 5/8 or 16mm if you prefer metric.
3. After removing the spring clips it should come off. Won't hurt the crankcase but be a bit more gentle with the plastic fitting on the air intake. The fitting itself will pop out if you pull it gently straight up and away from the air intake.
4. The jury is still out on this but I wouldn't go smaller than 16mm. The provent is 25mm.
The Hitchhiker's guide to the the Triton universe and NTN.

A how to on finding your own way - search me.

The two threads I wish people would use more: thing 1 and thing 2.

cheers guys! looking forward to getting the bar!

thanks for the offer matt, not sure if i am going to doit or if ill get ARB to do it. got price for them to colour code it for $220 so will get them to do that. Everywhere else is very expensive. im guessing because they have to mix a certain amount of paint etc.
If i fit it myself i may take you up on that offer though mate :D :D and for the headache it may cause i might even throw something your way to make it worth while! :D :D

Postby dan.batto on Fri Jul 08, 2011 9:32 pm

Cheers steane! Haven't checked yet if the provent is working... Probably should check that tap out!

Picked up the bar tonight... Was from arb! So was just excess stock they wanted to move on! Took straight to arb Kilsyth to get colour coded. Have opted to get them to fit it as i paid so little for the bar and if anything were to go wrong I could always throw the blame onto them! Gets fitted august 3rd!

Snorkel gets fitted Monday!

Have a problem with the airbag light! Goes in wednesday. From searching here could be anything but the most common problem seems to be the spring in the steering!

Hey Dan looking good.

Should take up Mattz offer of a helping hand on the bar, think he is still feeling guilty after the now infamous "RANDOM GUY" Fiasco.

From this day forward to be known as......... "Random gate".

So today I decided to install the led strip lights in the tub.
Found a new spot to pull cables through. I believe some guys are pulling them through the back of the tub near the cabin. I got mine through the tail light

Ran a temp cable to the battery. Will re run it to the auxiliary battery when I install it soon.

With some dodgy temp wiring to a switch, until I make the power box tomoz this I how it came up.
If anyone can see in problems with it draining the battery let me know!!!
