Excolo's Triton Mods

Postby Excolo on Thu Jun 30, 2011 11:21 pm

G'day all.

I have been holding back for a bit before starting this thread as I have had a lot of stuff on. However those of you who welcomed me to the site in my initial introduction mentioned I may end up spending a bit. Well it looks like this may be about to happen, so I thought I would get this up and running before to much has taken place.

I got my GLX-R with standard options. It was Manual with a tonneau cover and tow bar.

Shortly after purchase I ordered the neoprene seat covers and put them in -

Back. [Note the team allegiance. :-) ]

Some of you may recall a month after getting it, I had some unofficial modifications made in Heidelberg.

Note minor dings and scratches.

The other bloke didn't get to drive away. I felt bad for him. He was a nice bloke.

The first non-mitsubishi mod or non-accidental mod were the brilliant Bash Plates arranged by Mitch. Thanks mate. Very happy.

Now.... this may not seem much in comparison to the others here, but I had approval from the Minister of Finance the other week to source a few extra items as we are popping up to the Murray for some Cray Fishing in a couple of weeks time. So Tomorrow I will be getting a Safari Snorkel fitted, followed by the Mitsubishi rear protection bar next week and bonnet protector. Then at the end of next week, I am getting the Razorback Canopy fitted along with a power point in the tray and reversing lights fitted where those funny circular things in the plastic on the back are.

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot. Had a reversing camera fitted.

:-)

Looks like I have started with the downwards spiral of money replacement. Thanks for the warnings. LOL.

I'll be putting up the new pics as the mods progress.

Cheers and happy driving.

Ahhhh...another good man down

It just keeps going from here...

Good to see you are getting out and using it too mate 8-) jeez it put a bit of a 'dent' in the blokes ute
But really glad to hear you treated it as an "accident" as they all are...too many people get precious about their cars and consider an accident as an intentional act of vandalism or something...
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.

Good job Excolo. Will this be the first bright red build up thread? Don't recall any others.

Thanks team. I am really enjoying this vehicle and want us to get more out of it, as I have discovered from this site that they have so much potential. :D

I am really looking forward to getting involved in trips in the future when it is ready. Should be fun.

I got the Safari Snorkel fitted today in Mornington. They also installed the diff breather kit for me too Thanks Steve for supplying that. (My aim in future is to do most of my own work. But as we are still unpacking after moving, the garage is full and the tools are well hidden. )

Here is the Snorkel installed.

and again.

Is it just me or do the wheels and tyres look smaller now that the snorkel is on? ;) Will I have to do something about those too?

And the bracket mounting it.

Here is the diff breather kit installed. Sorry for no shots of it getting put in. So I have no idea.

Next week .......... stay tuned for the next thrilling instalment......

Cheers. :D

Yeah, it helps when the other party hops out and asks if you are okay first off. That sort of sets the tone of the exchange. It made me believe that he was a reasonable person who stuffed up.

But more beast. The first thing that went through my mind once we came to rest was - %£#%%* I've only had it a month?!!! But now I can rationalise. If I ding it taking it out with you guys; It's already been christened.

Happy with all that. The Minister of Finance has is happy with the mods too, but has since issued a decree of a stay on further mods for the near future. :D

Everything looks great mate except..................Pains me to say it but with the long arse MN and that low slung alloy tubing under the tow bar it won't last 30 seconds on a trip! My suggestion sell it before you wreck it! Check out the new MCC rear bars or even the TJM! That alloy will simply crush at the first sign of contact!

Will those alloy bars sit up higher if the rear step is removed? Am sure I've seen them sit higher on other vehicles. I think Dazmit was one member with them sitting better?

Bugger. I suppose I will have to do alot of sideways work to stop the rear contacting.

You are correct CD. I had a look at Dazmat's shed. Not bad. He doesn't have those black plastic doohickeys that so many other Triton's do. But it is food for thought. Thanks for the heads'up, team.
