Did they use the brake bias valve as well

everything is standard

BTW I have full ABS, further testing will determine what if anything needs doing, it will be engineered ;)

You have full ABS? It may be a stretch but with what you have done to achieve ABS with the conversion, could the same technique be used to keep abs with a SAS?

I wouldn't think so as I have used a majority of factory items

To graft on something at the front SAS Mitsubishi has never done this, abs rings etc would be difficult

Maybe use Mitsubishi axles from the rear in the front, but it would all be custom in custom housing, that would then locate the pumpkin in the centre not offset like we currently have

Ow use the rear axles and cut and re spline

Thinking on the go, lots of custom work......

well good news is it has passed the road test.
Tomorrow the engineer comes over to sign it off (mods to brakes etc)

pick it up Friday afternoon, cannot wait to test drive and see the difference.

should be heading up to Double Island some time next week (have a week off) and might go for a play at glasshouse as well to check articulation

Well done, will be interested to see/hear about the difference off road ;)
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything important, it's too late to stop reading it.

Hidden behind the airbox

So I have driven now
Very nice, and the auto behaves like it should
Be interesting to track the fuel consumption

Don't think there will be much difference off-road due to the diff ratios, but the rear suspension has been changed, should see some awesome flex/ articulation.......

Changed the diff ratios from 4.1 to 4.6 and added rear disc brakes
also have some experimental shocks, longer brake lines, tailshaft spacer and other stuff in the rear to provide a good ride unloaded and loaded, as well as providing flex (some of this is not available for on road use)

I'm trialling the diff ratios and brake conversion for a sponsor (tritonwreckers) so while it is available it is still in test mode before public release.

it is mod plated etc, so done right so shouldn't be too far away if people are interested.

Looking good mate, love seeing custom gear on rather than this arb tjm bolt on stuff haha. How is the gearing? Should be much slower in low range :D

will see, but so far I was concerned nothing had changed, and how that could happen.....

find out via GPS that the speedo and odometer must read off the gears so I'm back to having a near stock speedo- 10% out  ;)

with that taken care of the ride from the auto is so much nicer (already :geek: - plan to try and reset the learning by disconnection of the battery etc) which should make it even better.

take off and rolling acceleration is improved so towing should be nice and I should avoid needing the torque convertor manual lockup.

not sure the low range will be noticeable, but looking forward to testing, and not having to take apart the rear drums every time I hit the mud of glasshouse (learnt the hard way on that needing a full rebuild of the drums including pistons in the past)

Haha you'll have all the stopping power mate, possibly tooo much  Was there alot of mucking around getting the crown and pinon gears sorted?

yep you don't want to know- 3 different diff specialists
not a straight swap and required machining to get the crown and pinion to "lap" properly

Engineering was pretty good in terms of price seeing as in my case lots of original stuff was used

Also because I was the first it was looked at in detail, it can become a "type" approval in the future

Past the first test
Reversing up my steep long curving driveway

Did it so much easier than in the past

Might have to reassess my thoughts on usefulness in low range, I think I will notice.

In comparison to yours? You know your driveway is bad when you need low range to reverse up the bloody thing.

home now after a break and a pretty good test.

Articulation, pretty happy to be honest.

when on the hoist the abs and compressor lines were taunt, so I got a spacer made- lots of little things went into this last iteration, and I did a fair bit of stuff as well. The tails shaft spacer sorted out my shudder on take off.

Well so far impressions of the diffs and brakes are all positive, has good initial power and the auto seems to be real happy, and not as clunky in the upchanges that occasionally caught it out
Revs are 2300 for 100kms gps speed
And 2500 for 110

Problem witht he gears is that it now is back to the speedo reading incorrectly by around 10% comparing to GPS
Could get some stupid reading with it like this......so will need to either do the jaycar mod or marks adaptors (or get 34" tyres)

I do have a little driveline vibration at 90 to 100 but at this stage putting it down to the driveshaft, which has a massive rock rash from past adventures

Fuel usage is looking good, well an improvement but this will not be a good test due to the kayaks on top for the hiway runs

Also did a run to double island point, freshwater track on the beach and return via dirt roads/ sandy roads

So still happy, will be getting a breakdown on costs for either brakes or diffs in the new year for others, that will be interesting

so notes on the disc brake setup from my observations.

The benefit of this to my eyes is it is all working through the factory abs system
So it retains the factory bias
So as the rears want to lock up (better brakes than before) more bias is applied to the front? One of the reasons it was easy to get engineered

I have found from playing around, I get much better overall braking than before, even the wife noticed

Interesting I now find it hard to get the abs to engage (chadder/ lock wheels) but braking is better.

Played around with a variety of surfaces
Beach, fast gravel, and wet bitumen

Went real well, in sand - freshwater track (sand) at speed was the only time I could get it to lock up without being stupid, all other surfaces the braking was much better.

Will have to check it out with the caravan, but I expect the diff ratios and brakes to make a very noticeable difference to driving when towing the van 8-)

I always thought drum brakes were good for stopping better infact then disc but disc are better for race track type driving? Hence why trucks use drums they brake harder but don't vent aswell as discs. Definitely keen on the diff gears though might have to find some 4.9s
