Like the final position on that item. All you need now is the MAD MAX style truck diff splitter switch on the gear lever for duel mapping.

Loosing around 150 to 200KG and shifting some weight forward will make a massive difference even if still over GVM. 200KG is a bale of wool, that would squash my old rangie.

It wont snap, I have 100% faith in this vehicle.

Small aux battery mounted behind the drivers seat that is dedicated for the 30ltr aux fridge. Only just added the C-Tec charger to it and seems to be happier with more changing voltage.

Also rewired the factory cig lighter outlet to run off the aux battery and added a voltage display.

Treated BZI to New shoes the other day.

Koya xj 16x8 +15 offset and another set KM2's in 265/75/16. Going with the BFG's again because the last ones proved them selfs so well on our last trip. We got just over 45k kms of good grip out of them before they got dangerous.

Not exactly the style of wheel I wanted but I think they look ok? They're rated at 1350kg per wheel so will suit me with the excess weight I carry and they came up at a good price, are also a wider offset than the hummer wheels so I'm now about 60mm wider track. Has made it more stable in the handling that's for sure..

You've definitely done a lot of refining......well done.

If you still have trouble with your mounts cracking,you may need to make them less ridged. I had this trouble on a truck I owned where I kept cracking the body because of to much chassis flex. The body builder replaced the two front u bolts that held the body to the chassis with a mount that had a spring between the mount and the nut which allowed a little bit of movement with the flex of the chassis. Didn't have a problem after that.

All six mounting had cracks through them. The two front ones were by far the worst and had almost cracked completely off.
It was a combination of problems that did the damage... Firstly it was never rubber mounted, secondly the tray was overloaded, and thirdly we drove across thousands opon thousands of kms of very rough terrain.

I didn't get photos of the cracked chassis mounts but got photos of the steel c-section that gave way while we were up near Shark Bay...this was the first signs we had a problem...


This steel section supports the front of the tray and mounts to the chassis post. We had the tray tied up with fencing wire for another 2,000km until we managed to find someone that could help us with a replacement c-section. Here you see the new steel section, much stronger and stiffer... Problem then was all the force and flex is transferred into the next weak point the chassis mounts.

I should have rubber mounted it back then but was too hard at the time..
We all know how much these chassis can flex, especially when loaded to the max gvm's.
For now I've reinforced all the chassis mounts and have used 6mm conveyor belt rubber pads on all the mountings to allow for the flex and vibration. I can't believe these tray back companies that just hard mount them to the chassis. You'd think they'd know better.

Thermostatically controlled ventilation fan with multiple speed control, rain sensor and forward reverse operation. We wouldn't be with out this fan up here in the tropics.




Has proven to be a very reliable and comfortable little camper. Has been carried over some of the toughest tracks in the country and is still holding up perfectly. We love it when the weather turns bad, just climb in the back at let the storm go over while others are getting flattened.We love our camper!

Long term plan for it is to stick it on an off road trailer chassis. This will be Better for quick weekend trips without the hassle of taking my work canopy off.

It turns itself off and closes the hood down automatically. . You can override this if you want to get wet though.

Geez Dave I can tell you really want one of these.
Works by having water drops coming in contact with copper pads. The water conducts across the copper pads and closes the circuit. Very simple.

Been a while since Ive posted in this thread. Not too much been happening with the Triton... it just keeps existing and serving me well every day. Other than a retired turbo (warranty) and recently bent door (my stupidity) all has been rosy.

Just the other day I did throw some new king springs up front. Old ones had sagged about 20mm over the last 4years and 140k kms.

Some happy snaps of our Anzac weekend 4wd trip to Yalwal.

3x mates and their families, mix of vehicles, 1x dual locked cruiser, 1x rear locked hilux, 1x non locked lsd patrol and my Triton.

Monkey Gum track = Lots of fun! Conditions were prefect too, slightly tacky from a small shower of rain over night. Would be a very crazy track in the wet.

All vehicles except the Patrol cruised up without much fuss, just real fun and technical. Patrol needed lots of momentum with open diffs. Lsd was useless. Made for great entertainment.

Mainly to make the space a little more usable for camping trips. Aux battery to be relocated to that empty compartment instead of being on the floor behind seat.

Is a work in progress so much more to do yet.

Thought I'd pop in here and reminisce over old times and say hi.

Really nothing to add to this build these days but Triton is still going well.
It really needs some love an attention soon though as it's getting quite tired. Heaps of oil leaks, cracks in the body, slipping clutch, noisy rear diff, factory difflock compressor in the bin, dogged interior, down to one head light, flogged suspension bushes and ball joints... The list goes on.

But despite all that, it just keeps on.

Positives are, smooth engine and awesome fuel economy, better than when it was brand new, it's like the engine has finally worn in.
Gearbox a similar story, changes are smoother than ever.

Though, this could all be signs that it's all about to go to custard... Will just keep nursing it till I get time to fix it.
