Near to no protection behind the wheel and I think they do stick out a fair way ;)

The plate in the middle of the MCC bar is about the same height as an ARB bar.
It just appears lower.
Here is a scientific comparison conducted in the car park of a local watering hole last night.
Both vehicles were parked side by side......both have ultimate suspension.
The one with the MCC bar measured 630 and 620mm rear suspension
The one with the ARB bar measured 630mm both sides.
No front measurements were taken.
But I do know the one with the ARB bar sits slightly higher in the front.......doubt it would make make difference though.
MCC bar.......

ARB bar.......

So they are basically the same height.
The only major difference is that the MCC bar drops down to that low point only in the middle where the ARB bar drops to that point then tappers up towards the sides which would be more susceptible to scraping off road.

Next thurs night I'll measure the thickness of that bit if I remember

So to compare to your measurements Matt with the TJM bar, ultimate 2" and level driveway, 615mm each side

The corners measure in at
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376627857.938048.jpg

So add on the fact I'm sitting about 15mm lower than your two vehicles they all seem relatively the same in distance from the centre.
Would be good to get those other distances

Throwing mine in the mix - excuse the dirt. Went and gave it a good test today:

Only running 265/75 R16 - no other lift.

Bottom of the mitsu tow hitch sits around 570 - which I can live with.

Wow!!! That is seriously bad departure angle compared to the other rear bars then huh???? Looks like you picked the wrong bar ;)

For accurate departure angles between bars I think the distance say from rear guard to where bar would intercept if a line was drawn straight down from end of rear bar to ground should also be included. I am interested to see how the MCC goes vs TJM and ARB

At the end of the day I create my own departure angle, just drag and scrape, WGAF , not me

Definitely the best looking bar on the market, offers maximum departure angle and is a great price, particularly if fitted from new.

All IMHO, of course.

Wheel carriers, on a DC that already has most of its traveling mass behind the axle?
Nah.

Chopper are you sponsored in any way by TJM? I recall in another thread you said you had a TJM winch because that's what they gave you.

Yeah I'd say the give away was when he said it was the best looking bar on the market. On the ML maybe but on the MN it got a big whack with the ugly stick.

I personally think the TJM is the "cleanest" looking rear bar for a Triton.....at least they didnt feel the need to take to it with a hole saw FFS  :P

Ive got more departure angle than all of you anyway with my tray!! Case closed!! :P

Such a shame it sits at home while you take the barge out instead then isn't it?

Touring trips?? Yes, Pajero wins hands down ;) You dont need to worry about flex or departure angle in the outback when towing a camper :D

4wding......the Triton still gets the go ahead, its just a shame i am so time poor ATM....havent done much of either type of trips lately :(

It's great that you have the height comparisons here. Anyone got the dimensions for distance from rear of vehicle (rear over hang)?

2 reasons my garage is space poor and this is (obviously) also going to effect the departure angle.

Good topic. I thought I had decided on ARB but now I am undecided again. :? :)

I measured mine the other night, it's roughly 10-12cm from the centre of the tailgate ;)

I got quoted $1100 today for an ARB rear bar is this close to what others have paid? This is for the bar only.

Why approach and departure angles are worth considering - as well as your ramp over.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBSicvF06CQ

Adding more length to an already long 4x4 does create more issues. Granted you can smash your way over/through some, but eventually if you keep pushing, it is going to catch you out and you are going to get hung up on it.

Something to consider when shopping for some barwork ;)

Obviously MN owners would want to put a bit more thought into what they choose for their rear bar, given the already extended rear.

rear protection

Postby yakfishdave on Tue Sep 03, 2013 8:32 pm

Hi all, I have been searching these forums and the net for a rear bar that can be fitted to the rear of my MN without having to replace my mitsi towbar, without success. I recently done some minor damage to the tub just under the tail light and missing the ugly useless mitsi bar, so was looking for some better rear bar/protection but having to replace the towbar seems a waste and selling the genuine one could be difficult. I have even considered using another brands bar and changing the brackets (or whatever) to make it fit and was wondering if anyone out there has done this or has any suggestions, Cheers, Dave
