Hey can anyone tell me what wires they tapped into for the actuator?

Just adding my 2c, Wolf does tailgate lock for the Mn now, I helped develop the prototype on my MN as Australia tailgate is different to UK models.

Electronic tailgate lock?

Postby tommydadog on Sat Dec 03, 2016 11:10 am

Has anyone tried replacing the link/rod from the tailgate handle to the locks on the side with some actuators so the handle would not be physically linked to the locks?

I've googled around and found locking kits for triton, but they all seem to be actuators moving a pin behind the handle to lock it. I don't really trust this as force on the handle and it might break.

I say this because tritons don't have locking tailgate and I had a hardlid that was defeated with a screw driver lol, lost 3k of gear that day. Getting a canopy and making some drawers for the rear and want to lock the tailgate so its even harder to break into the draws.

I had a look at the rear tailgate and I reckon a switch could be placed behind the handle which controls the actuator which opens the tail gate. My main issue is how do I tell the circuit when the triton is locked or unlocked? Is there a cable somewhere I could tap into and put in a relay?

Any thoughts?

cheers

I've thought about this too but I came up with a less complicated way than yours, I haven't actually done it though.

My idea was to have a spring bolt inside the tail gate with a hole drilled through the edge which matches up with a hole in the tub, so you need to pull the spring lock and also use the normal handle to open the tail gate.

To open the spring lock I was thinking about putting a small chain from the lock over a little pulley or some sort of guide so it hangs under the tub (out of sight) so you pull the chain under the tub and use the handle at the same time to open the tailgate.

So probably not as sophisticated and less secure than your way, but if the potential thief doesn't know how to open it then it would be ok.

Just another way to give you more ideas lol.

I have in no way ully investigated if this is possible at all by the way

I picked up my central locking for my canopy from the cabling in the B pillar. Easy as.
I will post up schematics later

Interesting idea tommy'd'd.

I'm think having a second bolt setup that locks the tailgate to the tub (similar to terror's) but operated by actuators. These could be wired independently with a switch in the cab or linked in with the central locking.

The hard lid locking is a joke - who came up with that? One of my locks has been attacked with a screw driver at some time. The locks are a very common commercial lock - just found I had a few keys of the same combo.

The hard lids really need a sliding bolt setup as part of the solution.

Does anyone know of any new options for a locking tailgate on an MN. I can't see any recent posts on this, and not a whole lot online. Manual key lock would be OK, central locking even better!.
Thanks

Hey mate,

Ive been looking through and it seems they only have the MR and MQ tritons. Do these fit the MN or are you referring to an old model?
