For the future, I'd be looking at brands like Ironman rather than the sub $200 ones on Ebay.

In the mid range there is a reasonable degree of choice and they are actually branded so the companies have to protect their brand name by making sure that the quality is there. The recent example of snatch straps is a very good case. As soon as the straps were identified as faulty/not meeting the specs they were withdrawn from sale and refunds offered to those who had bought them.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Luck of the drawer I reckon. I got mine off eBay for around that price with an overflow bottle. Overall quality of everything was good. Only issue was visually, with some scuff marks on the outside of the snorkel. I've since used some Maguires Gold Class trim detailer on it. It looks much better now.

Installed my ebay cheapie today, do you really wanna know how it went? Wish i could write this day outa history!
If i was a 4X4 shop i would refuse to fit this sh*t. Too much time in fabricating stuff that you would think should fit, like the air box adaptor (2hr of filing as 10m too small). Wont even mention the template. Should've paid the extra for a decent product with an accurate design! Didn't have the coin so paid the price in labour!
Pass me another beer ffs

Anyone worried about the water/moisture drain feature on these?

P.S Ya get what ya pay for!

In terms of the mid range ones, i thought exactly the same thing and went for the dobinsons snorkel. It arrived in a box that said dobinsons with dobinsons branded instructions however everything else was absolutely identical to the eBay one as far as i could tell from the pictures you guys have posted.

Just a FYI, everything fitted fine, just in the future i would get an ebay one rather than the $200 more for a name brand. I am not sure about iron man.

Read the instructions. Measure twice, cut once. Take your time.

Dont just drill the holes on the template, first check it against the snorkel to be sure they all line up.

Chippy - this is the one https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281594834811

The template was well out, ended up making one with baking paper.

I am waiting on one of them to come in, going away to the high country over queens birthday long weekend and don't want to chance any crossings.

Good to know the template is not too good, will as mentioned take the time and do it once and right.

Put some time aside for it, took me the weekend but I did it solo. If you do buy the one I bought throw their instructions out and just use safari's - its identical

Hey mate, Here's some tips from when I did my install. Hope it helps.
Full thread is here -> viewtopic.php?f=18&t=18226&start=25

Snorkel Install Checklist

1. Match up the snorkel to the template
2. Remove the mud guard and then the splash panels from under the wheel arch. Absolutely required. Provides access to all the snorkel bolts and hose clamp on the snorkel.
3. Masking tape side panel
4. Remove top cover of air filter
5. Remove air filter inlet hose (discard)
6. Remove coolant bottle (keep the screws)
7. Remove lower section of the air filter
8. Move wiring loom (remove indicator bulb if required, I did)
9. Attach air filter bracket (file plastic ribs, use sikaflex, drill holes 3x 5mm. Tried to rivet, failed, went with nuts and bolts)
10. Drill inside 102mm hole (cut/bend thick strong metal inside)
11. Screw studs into snorkel (using Loctite)
12. Apply template
13. Punch template holes
14. Drill outside 95mm hole
15. Drill snorkel mounting holes (multiple – 16mm)
16. Attach pillar bracket to snorkel (using Loctite and sikaflex)
17. Fit snorkel temporarily to car and mark pillar bracket holes
18. Drill pillar bracket holes (3x 8mm)
19. Debur all holes cut
20. Apply rust proof to all holes
21. Refit airbox to car (before the overflow bottle as you can’t do up one of the bolts if the overflow bottle is already in place.
22. Connect new overflow bottle (using Loctite)
23. Connect hose to snorkel (use sikaflex and hose clamp – tighten this one)
24. Connect hose to airbox (use sikaflex and hose clamps)
25. Fit snorkel to car using washers and nuts
26. Attach snorkel with bracket to pillar (use sikaflex, tried to rivet but the angle of the bracket prevent this. Used plugs and screws) - have since replaced with rivnuts
27. Attach snorkel head (use sikaflex)
28. Tighten all hose clamps
29. Sikaflex everywhere -to seal any gaps
30. Reinstall splash and mud guards

Mine showed up in mail today, everything in there. I didn't have a tube of sikaflex here or the effort to goto bunnings so I'll grab a tube from work tomorrow and throw it on.

Seems pretty straightforward, the template low and behold is out on every hole but 2, I matched them near the elbow and have set the rest out based off them. Will update tomorrow post install with either success or pics of car on fire.

Hi Guys,
Had my ebay snorkel installed today by a mechanic. Seems as though he drilled the 102m hole on the outside as well as the inside. Didnt use any rust inhibitors or sikaflex on anything. Rather than take it back, I'd much rather he not touch it any further. Can anyone recommend any rust proof products and type of sika flex?
Thanks
