Where to spray rear sports bar black

Postby flow13 on Tue Sep 11, 2012 10:34 am

Hi guys,

Picked myself up a new Triton GL-R.

Ive seen a few utes (including tritons) on the road with the rear sports bars sprayed black.

I spoke with a guy that had one on his Hilux and he said he had his powdercoated.

Just wondering if any one has done it themselves or can recommend places to go (Preferably Sydney) to get it done and how much I would be up for $$$.

Cheers

talk to a p/coater. $50-60 i'd reckon would get it done

Would powdercoating be the best option you think? How long does it last usually?

Send Motoz a PM. He has it done to his. He's in Adelaide though.

I'd say it would be easier to apply than paint so cost would be lower. No reason why it wouldn't last forever, short of scratches and the like.

I found powder coating is little more forgiving on the scratches and doesn't wear off so easily when scratched.

If they powder coat bull bars, rock sliders and rear bars, it's probably durable enough for the sports bars?

If you use it to carry stuff, you can then put some clear tape or the black grip tape on the wearing surface to avoid scratching

Mine was around the $80 mark from memory for acid clean and powder coating, not 100% as had the hoop done on the bullbar at same time.

Pays to shop around too, my quotes ranged from $120 for both to over $300
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

I got mine done in Hornsby - Northern Sydney (Don't know where in Sydney you are...) and it cost me $60. I took it all apart, I know the old sports bars were one piece but most of the new ones are three, and then took the pieces to him. I have had it for just over two years, and the powder coating has come up better than the paint on the sides from bush pinstripes. Apart from minor scratches which you can hardly see, it looks pretty much the same as the day i got it back. But like its been said before, nearly any powdercoater should do it...just depends on if they can add it to a spray they are doing or if they are going to start a new booth etc just for the stuff you want done. Mine was relatively cheap because it was just added... :D
