Would be so much better if the manufacturers had actually engineered proper recovery points into the chassis in the first place.

Looking at the previous photos the crumple zone of the chassis doesn't really look too structural, compared to the area below and back from the body mount.

Bingo
What makes anyone think these are a better solution to the factory items IF used correctly

Read the road safe or any of the aftermarket recovery point blurbs and it's all about sensible recovery minimal stress on the points sharing loads etc

Are these practical if you already have a winch or is it an either / or situation ??

if you have a winch then the OEM hook should be all you need for snatch operations (or connect for a double line pull on winch).

if the OEM hook isn't strong enough, then you probably should be winching it.

just my opinion. :|

Just fitted the new released rated recovery points from http://www.roadsafe.com.au. I have a ARB bar and ARB bash plate on my car. The ARB bar is the only one according to the fitting instruction this points will fit. On the ARB bash plate i had to cut out the corner a fraction so they fit around the recovery points.
Roadsafe 4WD FITMENT GUIDE for RP-TRI02 FEA Rated to 5000kgs per tow point

As fitted to MN Triton
• These points follow the same instructions for both sides.
• Place the tow point against the inside of the chassis rail with the return section under the chassis.

• Align the rear most bolt hole with the hole in the chassis closest to the radiator.
• Mark the 2 remaining holes (closest to front and underneath) with a centre punch
• Remove tow point and drill holes to 13mm (recommend using multiple sizes to get to 13mm)
• Paint holes to protect from corrosion
• Place tow point in place, recommend to clamp with G clamp or similar at this point
• Feed nut plate on wire into chassis rail (local modification 1)
The supplied nut plates want fit thru the hole in the chassis rail, I cut hem down with the angel grinder as per below pictures

Insert the nut plates behind the front wheel as follows:

• Each tow point will have 3 x M12 Hi tensile bolts, each should have 1 flat washer and 1 split washer.
• Apply a split washer then flat washer to each bolt and install through tow point into the nut plate, finger tighten all 3 at this point
• Once in place you can tighten all 3 bolts to specified torque setting.
I have an ARB bar fitted witch was no problem or restrictions with the Roadsafe recovery points. But the ARB bash plate needed to be cut out slightly where the recovery points where.

After I made this cut out on both sides the bash plate fitted back in its place
No problem.
The final look

Has anyone tried fitting these to any other bar? Why would they not fit to an Ironman or anything else. They are selling them in Opposite Lock so you would think they fit to their bars!

Hi Staf77

I guess if there is nothing obstructing the recovery point on the chassis rail as per my picture above, then i could not see why it should not fit. If you need more info send me a PM i can send you more pictures.

Not mine. Rather than go and have look people keep asking what else fits. I just saved the picture from a shop in SA that fits them to show it fits with none ARB bars.
If you don't remove the bullbar you need to use the "oval" hole above the sway bar to feed the plates/nuts into the chassis rail/

Topics merged. There's a bit of duplication but better to have it all in one place than scattered all over the forum.

I actually don't like the idea of cutting down the nutserts

that size may have been important to distribute the load along the chassis rail in terms of wall thickness so that it doesn't peal the chassis back

I would be hesitant to modify any part of the kit in order to fit- it is rated (for towing  )

just a thought
