Has anyone seen these on a triton? Looks like it would provide good protection for the big arse MNs but not sure if they might be too heavy?

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

So has anyone on here got the opposite lock bar yet? Heard some talk about it being made but nothing more, they have it up on their website now. Looks similar and is priced similar to ARB.

I saw the new rear bar Ironman has for the MQ.
"Finally!" I thought, "a rear bar I like the look of."

Naturally, I had to ask the question of the MN.
Thank you! I'm glad you like the design :-)
Unfortunately at this stage, we will not be making them to suit the MN Triton.

Looks a bit more like the kaymar rear bar with the more square profile. I agree it looks 8-)

G'day team, has anyone got a TJM RB6 rear bar fitted to an MN? If so, how many mm does it project to the rear of the number plate? I'm getting one fitted next week but need to make sure the ute will still fit in my garage!
Thanks.

Rear bars and your experience

Postby braydenc on Mon Jan 09, 2017 2:51 pm

So I wanted to hear from this vast knowledge we have on this forum everyone's experiences with Rear bars,

Now we all know the MN drags its ass over everything so a rear bar is a must if your doing any sort of 4wding

But with the amount of brands available ARB TJM MCC OL etc etc what do you have and what are your thoughts

So reply with
Type of bar:
Cons:
Pros:
Cost: (rough estimate)

and maybe someone will get some extra knowledge out of this I did check the search and didn't find anything regarding experiences with bars.

My 2c, anything that makes the arse lower, is a waste of time. Also, the big side loops on some of the bars seem prone to grab rocks and plough them into the quarters anyway. I find that most of the rough stuff is in between the ruts, so on mine, the low hanging rear step towbar seems to take the brunt of the impacts. I gave the genuine side loops a go, and they are woeful.

I feel that the first area to protect is the sills. The alloy side steps fold willingly into the sills, with even a suggestion of a rock

I now pretty much regard the tub as sacrificial, and will eventually upgrade to a custom tray that won't hit the deck.

I too would be interested to hear about rear bars as I intend to fit one.

I'd also be keen to hear an estimate of how much the departure angle improved with the rear bar.

Hi I have a tjm rear bar hers my 2 bits
This has saved me damage on many occasions ( I have not got hung up on the bars when dong some serous 4wd stuff
The rear step also gives great access to the roof if needed
The rear bar also Give some protection on minor bumps in car parks etc and trees with reversing back especially at night

It does not drag like a grader bar like the arb on
Just another note (it's pretty Easy to install your self with the help of another person)

Cheers

I like Pom have a tjm rear bar too. Cost about $600 from memory. One of the things I enjoy most about this bar is the way it is designed the tow ball sits closer to the car than the steps on each side which means no smacking shins into the ball, something I've done once or twice before!

Offers great protection as well as an easy diy install with the help of a mateto help lift it into place and bolt it in

Yep TJM here too.

Cons, haven't found one yet. Does what its designed to do.

Pros, as Pearcie45 says above tow ball design was a big plus for me. Had a couple of muppets reverse into it at carparks so its done a good job of protecting the bottom of the tub in those situations, hasn't even had a mark left on it.

Easy DIY install, eveything that needed to line up lined up as it should.

Price was around $650ish from memory with one of TJM's cashback offers.

TJM

Cons, the only issue I've found is with the centre of the bar where the tow hitch goes being closer in it limits my turning circle dramatically with my van hooked up. With the extended drawbar on my tri trailer it's not a problem so if you intend on towing keep in mind.

Pros, tough as nails and I've proven it many times with dragging my ass through things.

Price I can't remember as I bought it when they were first released.

Homemade bar cost around 120 smackers for weldable bends and steel.
Pros....saved my rear end after dropping off some rock steps. Also when I accidently back into a tree stump.
Cons...none. absolutly none.
My sliders get sticks caught in them but not so with the rear bar.
Check it out in albees rig if ya want.

TJM

Con - keep an eye on quality of steel, as mine 'bubbled' within 12-18 months under the powder coat (limited warranty on this stuff)

Pro - cheaper than the others by a very big margin and has taken some serious hits (as mentioned) in carparks from other cars (and the trailer when I unhitched one day, so has saved the rear a few times. Also, it is roughly the cost of a good tower, and that is included in the purchase. Always use it to get up to the canopy, as once I raised the height, I could not reach.

Price - $800 (ish)

Type: ARB Rear Bar

Cons: Recovery hitch doesn't fit properly - I'm sure a different brand hitch would work

Pros: It's saved my ass

Cost: $700 second hand

I am looking at the Xrox rear bar... but need some help.

Is there a difference between the glxr tow bar and and standard tow bar. As in height difference?

Xrox based the rear bar of haymen reece, but there are two sizes.. and Xrox can't tell me which one....

Typpe: I have the MCC Rear Jack bar
(see 2nd last row of photos ont his site. Few pics on a white Triton)
http://www.mcc4x4.com/index.php?option= ... &Itemid=14

I narrowed it down to the TJM or the MCC bar.

I liked how high the TJM sat and the corner protection it gave seemed decent. I didn't like the lack of protection right in the middle as the bar curves in where the hitch receiver is. Leaves you vulnerable right in the middle. Also the MCC bar had better corner protection.

MCC Pros: Really good protection right up and around the rear corners, and all the way across the back of course. Really solid bar. Lots of recovery & jack points, including protected mounting space for tow harness plugs. The box design with round cutouts gives you lots of mounting opportunities for rear lights and anything else you can think of.

Cons: On the heavy side. The rear plate that houses the hitch receiver can drag if you bottom out going up a steep incline...but its solid.

I contacted Ironman to ask if they were planning on producing the rear protection bar for mn's and got this reply:

"Thank you for your enquiry.

We are planning on producing a rear protection tow mar for the MN Triton but is very early in its development stages so do not have any expected timeframe for its release."

The Ironman is the only rear bar I really like the look of so think will hold out
