Which rear bar?

Postby Bilbo on Thu Jun 19, 2014 6:33 pm

More pictures. :) I like pictures!!

I picked up an Mcc bar the other day (Secondand. Thanks Shannon), I like it because it suits the Xrox and sliders, it has protection around the trailer plug. The towbar also sits close to the roll pan on the tub. The bar appears to be deep and sit low, however this is an illusion. The top of the bar sits up close to the bottom of the tail gate. The to hitch is about the same height as a GLX tow bar.

I also like the 3000kg capacity, even though the ML can't tow that weight legally.

I'm with you on that one. I also like the fact that I can mount underside reversing LED lights and the Bar protects them too!

Where you from Alex? I have not posted it yet but I have an ARB rear bar that was only on for 4 months because I have changed over to a tray. Thinking about getting a normal bar and cutting ends off and getting an engineer to put new ends on to lift it as high as possible.

anyone got any photos of how they wired up the number plate lights on the mcc rear jack bar?? please?
i fitted the bar on the weekend and wired up the lights and then didn't work.
i did use those splice connectors. i think the original wires might be a bit thin though.
was going to be too much of a drama soldering upside down underneath the truck, so went with those things and some electrical tape.
can you buy the OEM plugs that came off the original lights?
was going to cut them off and use connectors with some liquid electrical tape and heat shrink this weekend and was just wondering what you guys did?
thanks

I just used bullet type connectors from memory. Don't forget they are LED's so you have to get the polarity around the right way.

Hi guys
Just had a quote for a rear bar from TJM here in Adelaide standard black the prices quoted were:

$943 rear bar
$189 fitting including fitting of wire loom.
Need to purchase wire loom from Mitsubishi

Has anyone had a recent price from TJM to compare?

Cheers Robby

Does anyone in the Brisbane area have the black ends of the genuine MN rear step that they no longer want or need?
Mine have snapped off - I'd like to get an aftermarket bar but funds don't allow at the moment

Thanks Lunny.

At the moment I'm just trying to round up a couple of these bits.

I already have a mitsu bar and all the clips have snapped.
I thought with a lot of guys having upgraded to aftermarket bars there might be a a couple of these ends laying around someone's shed.

Just read through this whole thread. There was something I'd thread about the MCC bar and it's recovery points. Are the two hitches either side of the number plate the recovery points?

Hi Guys,

First off like to say this has been a great thread and it helped me decide to check out the MCC Jack Rear Bar.

I went to Sports Range 4x4, Welshpool WA, to have a look. Was impressed with the bar, it looks solid and well built. They don't have any in stock and so I had to order one, got it for $790 plus the checker plate top step for $100. The sales guy, Matt, told me the price is about to rise to around $1000 (he gave an exact price but I cant remember it). So if anyone is thinking about getting one, I'd get it sooner rather than later.

They bolt into the factory towbar mounting holes, no drilling required. I asked him about QA with the bars and was told they have sold a heap of them and not had any issues. Take what you want from that, but from reading this thread it sounds like everyone is pretty happy with these bars.

My one tip having spent some time with one on the weekend is to check the bolts they give you - this one was relatively new but every bolt and screw was already showing signs of visible corrosion/rust/deterioration. A the very least swap the little number plate light screws for stainless since they're the most visible.

Fitted my XRox rear bar last week. It costs more than the ARB, TJM, MCC bar but I like it and am happy with it.

interested to see how that protects your tub mate. that shot with the sun and shadows does not show a lot of room for flex if you hit it onto a bank or something else solid.

i reckon most the rear bars are poor at side impact protection. especially mine.

Clearly my name is not B. Holder.

Looks like it might give some protection from the rear (depending on the mounting system) but I'm with Snowie as far as the sides are concerned.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to replace the tub than the bar that's protecting it?
