... you could fit a turbo 'chimney' in conjunction a forward facing bonnet scoop.... as Subaru did on the RS Liberty.
It had front mounted water to air intercooler for the air induction AND for extra cooling of the turbo itself, a small bonnet scoop which directed air to the left hand corner of the scoop, through a hole and to the turbo unit via a 'chimney' stack.
So it worked in two ways. When driving it forced outside air to be blown onto the turbo unit itself and when parked the hot air would rise and exit out through the bonnet scoop. 8-)
cheers, Rod

macca002 wrote:Besides aesthetics I do think that a bonnet scoop would have some merit. Especially if you are looking at doing a fair amount of touring and want something to help with things like heat soak.

40+ degree outside temperature, even hotter temps coming off the black top, long drive hauling a bit of a load on boost - its hot outside, so you have the A/C cranked to the max.

Wouldn't take long at all for the engine and turbo to generate some crazy heat under the bonnet. A scoop or vent would help remove some of that heat when moving and even more so once you reach your destination and finally pull up for the day.

I have seen more times than I care to remember people pulling up after a big run in our summer (pre-wet) only to jump out and pop their bonnets to let all of the accumulated heat out. Some are that hot you can actually see the heat shimmer (or whatever it is called).

I wouldnt put one on my 4x4, but I can see why some people would.

Or you could get these installed. I'm sure they'd work  I thought I remember seeing somewehere at some point a triton with a top mount intercooler...... It would involve a lot of modicication though.... heck, I can't even fit a 1.5L winscreen washer bottle under my hood.

Looks like old mate who created the topic was scared off with all those useless replies from the keyboard warriors!!
Who gives a rats why he wants a scoop or vent, give him a useful answer of bugger off. i spend half my time on forums scrolling through the garbage just to get a straight answer.

That Chapman bros rig look sweet, is that tub glass? If not props to the fabricator!! Anyone have any more pics of it?

Bloke at work has thrown a wrx style one on his MN, it's a stick on no hole cut yet apparently. Looks lairy, different strokes....

Be careful too with scoops, can upset airflow and make the fan flow less efficient.

Before I bought a snorkel, I was going to get one of these and fit it to the fender where you drill for the snork. It never happened but I sometimes wish I had have gone this routeClick to view larger picture
