Side mirror extension arms. 2014 MY15 Folding mirrors.

Postby tritonmatt76 on Sat Jun 07, 2014 10:11 pm

Hi,

I've searched multiple threads but can't find an answer so here goes-

I just picked up my new 2014 (MY15) GLX-R with a steel tray fitted. As. The tray is 1860mm wide the stick mirrors are a little annoying and obviously don't comply with ADR requirements.

I'm not keen on neither the factory spacers nor these huge twin arm towing mirrors.

Has anyone found an extension arm that will still give mirror fold functionality and good vision around the tray?

Trust me I've searched the threads.

Matt.

To my knowledge, they are your only options.
What don't you like about those options.
I can understand not liking the clearview towing mirrors......the price is enough to put you off then you have the size which would probably create a blind spot.

I thought to stock spacers would have been the most practical. Do they not let them fold or something?

Cheers guys. I'll take a look at the factory spacers, dealer didn't bring this to my attention, becoming more noticeable with a load on the back, can't see diddly squat behind me.

Factory spacers also mean new weather shields if they make themto suit the spacer?

I'm not sure if the fold function is lost with the spacer?

Was hoping there might have been a small extension arm as opposed to the entire mirror base?

Cheers.

Have you considered a constant running rear view camera. My tray is similar to yours and I had the same issue. Can't see squat. I fiited up a reversing camera to run constantly. Has night vision and great field of view. Bit more piece of mind around kids and no mirror will help with connecting the trailer like these things can.

Spacer doesn't remove ability to fold the mirror

"Factory spacers also mean new weather shields if they make themto suit the spacer?"

There is a different weather shield to suit too!

Side Mirror Spacers

Postby Dellian on Tue Jun 13, 2017 12:25 pm

With a tray on the back the standard side mirrors are more or less useless.
I've searched the forum and the only options I seem to have are the clear view towing mirrors at around $700+ for the pair. Or the genuine Mitsubishi spacers at $400+ a pair.
Are there any other options? This is a little too much money for my liking. Anyone make an after market pair of spacers?

Cheers.

Don't care how they look! Anyone keen for a group buy from clearview? Seems the only practical purchase that can almost be an investment.

I'm not sure what the dealers charge but when I was looking at options after fitting my alloy canopy I found this link and balked at the price for spacers - almost $400.... not that far off clearview mirrors. :o

I found it better value to set up a permanent rear view camera.

Rear view camera still has some blind spots. Bit the bullet and ordered a set of clearview mirrors. $650 trade price at ARB.

Side by side comparison of the standard and clearview side mirrors. Took about 5 minutes to install and didn't need to change the weather shields. Huge difference.

steel tray= mirrors doing bugger all, I have to lean over a touch to see better thru the passenger side mirror, can't rely on reverse camera when your over taking

I have a forward and rear camera. I can definitely see more see more with these mirrors on than I could with my rear camera alone.

Could see more with one of those big dome reflective mirrors on tight bends mounted to the bonnett, but a reverse camera mounted on the tub bars will give a good view, without adding 3l/100 to Tri. But sounds like you want the clearview, but justifying the price is hard.
Maybe could find some at wreckers?
