Ironman commercial bullbar

Postby Overbank on Sat Jul 12, 2014 1:17 pm

G'day all, I've searched the threads and think I am going to go for the ironman commercial for my MN GLX. Can anyone tell me if I will need to up the front suspension and if fuel economy will change much? Mine is a 2.5L 4spd auto, currently getting 9.3/100 with no mods.
Cheers

I had one fitted about a month ago, it hasn't changed fuel economy at all and, never even though about suspension. And has made not difference to handling or driving..

Awesome, thanks Heggs. Can I ask what you paid for the bar and if you had it fitted?

Just over 2k but that was for the bull bar a snorkel and a LED lightbar installed as a package price. Installation from reputable was a bit rough, probably should have installed it myself saved a few dollars and done a better job, but nothing i cant fix up

The suspension will change in it's performance, extra weight means different handling characteristics. But you may find that it is manageable. The snorkel does not improve fuel efficiency in my and many other cases, some people do talk of gaining fuel economy, but have never seen it myself.
I have the mighty Petrol V6 so I also use lunny's fuel card.

I have the ironman protector barb and it sagged the front end about 30mm. Still handles well but you should get a wheel alignment after a month or so after the suspension has sagged.

Is anyone aware of the torque settings for the mounting bolts for this bar? Instructions just say "tighten". Do you think Locktite is required or just overkill?

Overkill. If you use the supplied spring washers and tighten to the correct torque those high tensile nuts and bolts are not going to come loose. Because many of the holes in a bullbar bracket are slotted the strength of the system relies more on being tight to increase friction when a force is applied to the bar than they do on stopping the nuts and bolts coming loose.

I had the commercial deluxe installed recently. Front suspension sagged 7mm. Handling is better now, like when I have a load in the back. 2" lift booked for next week though :D

They're generally 8.8.
